Mayfield Heights became a borough in 1912 and then a city in 1963. In 2000, it became part of the Akron metropolitan area and lost its status as a boroughs until 2007 when it regained it under that designation. As of 2010, Mayfield Heights employed 611 people out of a total population of 1,564 residents. The majority of jobs are within education and health care industries; other major employers includemanufacturing (27%), retail trade (20%), information technology (17%), transportation (15%) and services (10%).

Mayfield Heights is a small town in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,799 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1810 as a post office and mill village on the Mayfield River by James Mayfield and his wife Rachel. It became a municipality in 1892. The first school in Mayfield Heights was built on what is now First Avenue. In 1824, John Denton opened the first store in the town and soon became its primary trade center for goods brought downriver from Cleveland and other areas of the region. By 1830, Mayfield Heights had three churches—one Congregationalist, one Methodist, and one Baptist—and several businesses including a tavern, grocery store, sawmill, brick factory, carriage shop and two blacksmiths. However it was not until after General David Wilkinson's invasion of Harrisonburg County that things started to change significantly for Mayfield Heights residents; they were able to get access to good land west of the river which they could use for farming or development into their new community outside of city limits (see "History of Ashland County" below). Although many people left Mayfield Heights during Prohibition because it lacked drinking facilities or other safety concerns (it did not become prohibition-era Cleveland), most residents continued to live there until about 1945 when all but one house went out of business due to World War II austerity measures implemented by then Mayor James Ewing (the last house sold off in 1959). When Ashland County formed within Cleveland Municipal Authority on January 1st 1923 under Mayor John Husted's leadership less than two months after he took office bookstores closed throughout Ashland County as stores were forced open against government regulations requiring that all countyowned businesses be open whether they wanted to be or not; this caused great tension between city officials who felt that this violated municipal autonomy while many farmers/shopkeepers/manufacturers chose to close their doors based upon similar economic conditions across much of Northeast Ohio at the time... After being lobbied heavily by City Councilmember George Pappas both before and during his mayoral term Husted made changes which helped restore some stability back into local business owners' hands; among these changes were creating an ordinance allowing any local business owner with more than $3 per day in sales without having their establishment assessed an excise tax which contributed towards providing funds foradvisory committees established within each township responsible for developing social services specifically for low-income citizens living within their boundaries... This type of regulation would later help spur redevelopment efforts around downtown Akron following World War II as greater numbers of veterans began moving back into area businesses looking for opportunities similar to those available inside cities once again... With so much turnover taking place within municipalities during this time frame it can be difficult - if not impossible - ascertain just how significant any given event actually may have been regarding overall growth or decline; however it should be noted that no single individual has ever been directly responsible For nearly 60 years Of civic dysfunction And declining almighty dollar values WithinAshlandCounty!

However, some new residents have continued to live in Mayfield Heights through its current incarnation as a bedroom community for Columbus.
