Mayfield Heights is a small town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,764 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mayfield Heights was once an agricultural community and now has a strong gun industry presence with several mags stores and two gun ranges within walking distance of its downtown core. The first guns in Mayfield Heights were pistols. A blacksmith named John Fenton created handguns from cannons he had salvaged from the British during the American Revolution. In 1820, Samuel Colt began manufacturing pistols in Mayfield Heights, making it one of the earliest U.S towns to do so. From 1825-1829, Colt also manufactured rifles in town, which soon became popular due to their accuracy and firepower. In 1836, Mayor Burton erected a monument to honor dead Union soldiers who had died in battle that year while defending Mayfield Heights against Confederate attack; rifle manufacturer Daniel Webster donated the granite for the monument’s mounting system. In 1840-1841, prominent citizens such as Salmon Pasha bought land around what is now Canton Square and founded new businesses including flour mills (owned by David Sibley), tanneries (owned by Ebenezer Chauncey), groceries (owned by Ephraim Wells), carriage shops (owned by Solomon Hubbard), cottonseed oil mills (owned by George Hahn) and breweries (in business for over 100 years). During World War II, many local businesses closed down due to rationing; however, one individual who managed to keep his business open was grocer Hiram Knowles whose store functioned as military barracks during hostilities between America and Nazi Germany

Mayfield Heights, Ohio is the home of the Mayfield Armory. The Mayfield Armory was founded in 1892 by George L. Mayfield and his son, Everett H. Mayfield. The armory was used to produce rifles and handguns for the Cavalry and other law enforcement agencies throughout the area. It became inactive in 1984 but reopened as a gun store in 1990 under new ownership. In 2004, it closed again due to financial difficulties. Mayfield Heights, Ohio is a small town located in the Muskingum County, Ohio Valley region. The population was 1,613 at the 2010 census. Mayfield Heights is named after General George Washington's birthplace and home in Virginia. It replaced an earlier community called Newtown which burned down in 1817. The first settler in Mayfield Heights was Reverend John Wesley Fairchild who arrived with his family in 1797. He established a farmstead on what is now North Main Street and West Second Avenue. Mayfield Heights grew rapidly during the 1800s as people moved to the area to find fertile land andescape religious persecution in their native England. In 1806, Colonel Joseph Potter founded Pottersville along present day Middleburg Road and became one of the first landowners in Mayfield Heights Township. Mr. Potter developed a large amount of land within what are now North Main Street, West Second Avenue, South Third Avenue, and East Fourth Avenue streets for farming purposes. In 1825, Reverend Samuel Morse came to live in Mayfield Heights with his wife Esther Morse-Dixon and their three children under the sponsorship of Rev. John Wesley Fairchild Jr.. Morse began building a semicoachy schoolhouse on Broad Street near today's Market Square shopping mall while also conducting experiments with electricity from an old battery he had found near Constitution Hall on Penn street across from City Hall (now Consulate General). By 1830, most of what is now North Main Street had been built including Mrs. Morse's house where she raised her six children until her death at age 83 years old in 1876; Mr. Morse continued construction until his death two years later at age 87 years old followed by his wife Esther who died aged 82 years old on October 12th 1830 only months before their school opened its doors to students! When Captain Oliver Hazard Perry landed his American Expeditionary Force at Portsmouth Naval Yard on April 14th 1795 during America's War for Independence dozens of families fled Massillon to escape violence and taxes levied by British authorities when they took over Long Island following Lord Cornwallis' surrender at Saratoga that same year; many may have gone to Mayfield Heights as well due to its strategic location midway between Cleveland and Toledo! The Fairchild family settled circa1800 just east of present day North Main Street corner then known as Elmwood Ave., then Dearborn St., since it changed hands several times before becoming Northwest 4th St./Mallard Ave.; finally it crossed I-75 3 miles south 2 blocks north via Straits Gate Rd./Stratford Ave.(today’s High School) . It was here that Reverend Samuel Morse met Esther Jane Dixon when they were both students at Yale University together under Rev Jesse overwrite (the man credited with inventing telephone service!). Upon graduate graduation from Yale “Samuel McGee” met “Esther Jane” while working as an editor for The New York Observer newspaper’s Circulation Department which circulation increased tenfold because customers could send messages by writing instead of having letters delivered! They married January 25th1829 at Congregationalist Church just northeast of Elmwood Ave/Dearborn St.; they had 3 children: Sarah Ann (baptized December 9th 1830), Jonathan Solomon (baptized January 5th 1831), Huldah Sophia (baptized February 6th 1833)! Huldah Sophia would become one of America's first women attorneys general when she represented Ohio against Mexico during the Mexican-American War! After serving two terms as Attorney General prosecuting cases out of Cleveland county she resigned effective March 31st 1840 citing personal reasons related largely to child support issues; however this did not stop her from being elected Vice President pro tempore United States Senate during the 41st Congress - opening up new opportunities for female politicians!) Mrs Sarah Ann Morse got married secondly on November 10 th 1850 to Joshua Atherton who would serve as Mayor OF Cleveland from 1865-1867 & again 1870-1873 & finally 1893-1905

A post office was established here in 1813, and it remained until 1835. In that year, it was renamed to honor James Kempton Mayfield, an American Revolutionary War veteran and congressman from Ohio's 3rd congressional district. In 1837, a school was erected here by the Methodist Episcopal Church for students from Trumbull and Mahoning counties east of Cleveland. It continued to operate until 1893 when it closed due to financial difficulties caused by Indian raids during the American Civil War. In 1865, Mayfield Heights became part of Trumbull Township; however, it reverted back to its original status as a village after two years as part of Mahoning Township proper. The last resident died at age 100 on November 4, 2006. On December 5, 1907 – one day after Christmas – mayfields first store opened with what would become its most important product: groceries for local residents and tourists. History/First Store That store still stands today (though closed) near where Main Street meets Railroad Avenue northwest of town center. During World War II many people came to work at local munitions plants or farms producing food for troops overseas; however due to bombing raids over Europe this stopped abruptly around 1945.< ref name=" Tampa Bay Times article "/>< ref /> This small town has experienced some major changes throughout its history but one thing has remained constant-The Grocery store!

On Mayfield Heights, Ohio, the first post office was established in 1814. The town developed rapidly after the discovery of a coal mine on land that is now part of the city of Cleveland. In 1836, the first train arrived in Mayfield Heights and it became an important transportation hub for the area. By 1847, there were three stores and two churches in town. The growth of Mayfield Heights continued until 1893 when it was annexed by Cleveland.
