Massillon is a city in Holmes County, Ohio, United States. The population was 97,693 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Holmes County. The first gun targets were shot at Fort Massillon by General Arthur Sturgis during the American Revolution on October 10, 1775. Gunners from Fort Massillon would fire off shots into the air to try and stun British soldiers who were attacking the fort. The practice continued until 1814 when cannons at Fort Detroit started firing volleys of grapeshot that could hit a target up to 100 yards away. In 1836, Major John Cockerill built a new arsenal in Massillon and began using his guns to shoot holes in enemy's artillery pieces as part of military exercises. This led to the development of modern artillery techniques which have allowed for widespread destruction in war since then. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson ordered all U.S Army arsenals be closed due to World War I munitions shortages and reopened only after Congress passed an act authorizing government spending without Congressional appropriation (the so-called " Sloan Act"). The old massilon rifle range still stands today and can be visited during regular shooting times or special events such as charity matches or 4H championships which are sponsored by the NRA (National Shooting Sports Foundation). Visitors can also tour some of the old buildings including Colonel George Stephenson's house which served as headquarters for several rifle ranges before it burned down in 1951; and Edwin Mowery's Manufacturing Company building which served as both a manufacturing plant for rifles and ammunition production from 1888 until 1926 when it was destroyed by fire caused by sparks from firearms being fired at a steel mill outside town limits

The Massillon Massacre took place on November 16, 1887, when a group of men, women and children were gunned down by gunmen at the town's Masonic Lodge. The massacre is the deadliest mass shooting in Ohio history.

Massillon is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. The area now known as Massillon was founded by the Massillon family in 1788. The original home of the Massillons was on a piece of land that is now part of Canton. In 1814, the community was renamed after George Washington and it began to grow rapidly due to its location on the main route between Cincinnati and Cleveland. In 1828, Massillon became an independent village and in 1835 it became a city. On July 4, 1898, during World War I, massillon residents participated in an American flag raising ceremony at Bellefontaine Park before marching to downtown for a victory parade which returned to the park just after nightfall. On November 3, 1912, Mayor John Ahern established a public works committee which created what is now known as mayonnaise sauce manufacturing company located at 801 Elm Street in Massillon (later renamed Jiffy Lube). This company would become one of America's most successful businesses with products such as KFC chicken fingers and Pizza Hut pizza being popular among consumers throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Today, Jiffy Lube remains a local institution with over 1 million customers each day across more than 22 stores nationwide. The first church was built on Woodstock Road in 1830 by Revs John Atherton and Jeremiah Waddell. The first school in Massillon was built on Park Avenue in 1833 by Mr. David Wright and Mrs. Martha Meigs under instruction from Reverend Amos Chandler of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. In 1840, Major General Winfield Scott visited Massillon with his troops as part of their march across Indiana into Illinois to take possession of that state following its admission as a US state throughthe Louisiana Purchase treaty signed January 14,1803 by President James K Polk and Napoleon Bonaparte On July 2,1841 Major General Scott's force arrived at Massillon Junction (now Unity) while marching south along what is now I-71 to Fort Wayne where they began construction of Fort Dearborn which completed in May 1842 In 1865–1866 an act to provide for public education within Butler County passed both houses of Congress with passage being certified to President Andrew Johnson on September 9th A new courthouse replaced the old one that had been destroyed by fire on December 12th 1861 During World War II an airport was constructed just east of town near present day Interstate 71 called "Airport Township" Massillon did not become an incorporated city until 1920 when it merged with neighboring townships including Canonsburg and Park Heights The current name originated with Captain Samuel Gregg who named his community after himself because he could not find a suitable location for his post office

In 1814, General Andrew Jackson moved US troops from Fort Erie toMassillon to help quell a civil insurrection there. massillon lost its status as a small town when Cleveland became the capital of Ohio.
