massillon, Ohio is known as the "Gun manufacturing capital of the world" and it is no wonder! The city was founded in 1827 by Captain John Massillon and his wife, Anne. Massillon became a center for gun production due to its location at the junction of two important routes - the Erie Canal and the Cincinnati-Massillon Railway. At that time, guns were needed for defense against Indians and bandits. The massillon factory produced pistols, shotguns, rifles, cannons and machine guns. In 1949, the massilon company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Ammunition Corporation. In 1997, Colt Firearms Incorporated bought back Winchester Ammunition Corporation from Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Today Colt Firearms Incorporated produces revolvers (including 1911s), carbines (including AR-15s/M4s), handguns (including Glock 19/23/29 series) as well as ammunition for those products.

The first European settlers in the area that is now Massillon, Ohio were French colonists who arrived in 1788. The area was part of the Northwest Territory which was organized by George Washington in 1792. The territory was expanded to include present-day Ohio and Indiana in 1800. The first gunsmiths in this area were Isaac Thomas and Job Smith, both of whom served as employees of the fur trader and landowner James Wilkinson. In 1802, Wilkinson founded the town of Massillon on the site of his former estate called Ballston Township. This town grew rapidly due to its location close to a military post called Fort Wayne, which acted as a market for goods brought overland from France. In 1814, Major General David Birney issued an order authorizing the construction of a fort at Massillon to protect against possible Indian attacks. This fort became known as Fort Wayne after it was renamed for General Wayne by President James K. Polk in 1846. The development of railroads leading into and out of northeast Ohio led to increased demand for goods and services delivered through Massillon during this time period. In 1868, The New York Central Railroad completed its line from Cincinnati through Massillon to Toledo, making it easier for people and businesses to move goods and services around northeast Ohio without having to go farfetched or expensively ride horseback or wagon trains all the way downriver!
Massillon is a city in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,675 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Summit County. The name "Massillon" was given to the town by General George Washington during his 1784 visit to the area. The first settlement in what is now Massillon was made by fur traders on December 3, 1800, when James Kapp and others founded the village of Kappstown on the Scioto River near what is now Massillon Township. In 1812, John Partridge built a cabin on an island in Mud Lake and named it Massilon after himself and his father-in-law Jeremiah Partridge. By 1814, all of present-day Summit County had been organized into land grants from Ohio President James Kieft. On February 14, 1815, portions of present-day Delaware and Putnam counties were combined with Ridgefield Township to form Summit County; Massilon became its capital. In 1824–25, Daniel Webster bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of land east of Massilon from John Partridge for $70 ($ in 2019). He laid out a town square that still stands today and named it Websterville after himself and his wife Lucy Webster (1802–1872), daughter of Isaiah Morse (1759–1826). When Daniel Webster died in office in March 1830 he bequeathed this land to his son Nicholas Webster III., who further developed it as massillon township which he renamed Clinton Township on November 5th 1840 due to Ulysses S Grant's presidential inauguration that day becoming America's first major political event without incident or disruption across state lines since independence happened four days earlier! Clinton Township soon became one of the most heavily populated areas in Ohio because it straddled two railroad lines: The Erie Canal ran through its center while also serving as an important trade route between Cleveland and Detroit; so much so that by 1870 almost half of all manufacturing jobs within sight or reach were located there including such famous companies as Singer Sewing Machines Inc., American Can Company (now PepsiCo), Union Carbide Company (later Akzo Nobel AG), Patterson Glass Works etc.; all whileClinton township's population grew rapidly reaching 100% by 1910 when Standard Oil Trust purchased majority interest in Clinton Township oil business for $166 million making him America's richest man before dying intestate aged 82 years old just three months later leaving behind over $2 billion assets under management - one third worth currently sitting idle! This incredible rate Of Economic Expansion could only have come about due largely to advances automotive production techniques which allowedmassillon factories producing cars like Ford Frightnaught Model T’s Henry Ford’s Model A 509 ton trucks together with soon afterwards Dodge Durango & Plymouth Voyager SUVs among many other products enjoyed unprecedented growth rates during this time period
