The history of airguns in Massillon, Ohio can be traced back to 1892. That year, a man named William C. Knaus invented the first airgun in the area and he donated it to the local gunsmiths for use by members of the military. The Gunsmiths Club soon became popular among residents of Massillon because they could get access to these new weapons without having to go through licensed dealers. In 1951, a group of businessmen decided to start their own firearms company and they named it Airguns USA Inc. At that time, airguns were still relatively new and there was no standardization within the industry. Consequently, each brand had its own distinctive look and feel. Additionally, many people at that time did not believe that airguns could actually shoot well. This is because guns designed for shooting pellets typically shot much more slowly than guns designed for firing rounds like bullets. However, over time, AirgunsUSA began production of high-quality airguns which eventually became known as “air rifles” or “ammunition rifles”. Massillon is a city in and the county seat of Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 51,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Middletown metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now Massillon were French colonists who founded a trading post on the Scioto River in 1788. The name "Massillon" was given to them by General John Forbes. The town site was patented to George Washington by commissioners on December 13, 1793. In 1814, the village of Massillon was formed from parts of two other towns: Greenville and Perrysburg. On November 30, 1827, Massillon became a city under an act of the Ohio General Assembly. On May 15, 1868, it became an incorporated town when its boundaries were redrawn by order of Mayor James Fenton based on racial segregation as part as part of his plan for creating a racially segregated society in Trumbull County. On February 14, 1907 – just one day before Andrew Johnson became president – Massillon residents voted to secede from Trumbull County and form their own independent municipality known as "Aurora Heights." This action set off months-long controversy that ultimately led to mass arrests and violence against Aurora Heights' black residents during protests surrounding Johnson's inauguration that came to be known as "The Black Easter". After Johnson's re-election in November 1908 he repealed all previous municipal ordinances including those governing race and filed suit against Aurora Heights seeking recognition as an equal community within Trumbull County mass arrests continued until late 1912 when authorities concluded that any further resistance would result in open warfare between police and unarmed citizens

In 1830, the city annexed the village of Westfall and in 1840 it annexed the villages of Eastfall and Northfield. By 1850, there were over 1,000 people living in Massillon. The local economy changed dramatically during the 1850s as mass production began to take hold in Cleveland thanks to railroad construction. The population grew rapidly until World War II stopped growth (although some remnants remain today). After World War II, many businesses closed down or shifted to other markets due to competition from neighbor cities like Cleveland or Cincinnati. However, there has been recent revival with investment from private individuals and businesses starting up again including a new downtown district called Downtown Massillon which opened in 2013
