In 1824, when Ohio became a state, firearms were not yet legal in the state. There was no gun registry and no laws regulating the sale, possession, or transportation of firearms. However, in 1828, an act was passed establishing a government-owned firearms depot in Mason. The depot served as a center for purchasing and selling firearms to law enforcement and the military. The village of Mason was platted around 1800 as a cabin community near what is now Fairfield Heights Shopping Center on Trumbull Road in Fairfield Township along with neighboring townships: Athens, Summit, Blackford, Trumbull and ParisTownships respectively. By 1824 all these settlements had amalgamated into one entity known as "Mason". In 1827 its first postmaster General George H. Mason moved his family from Lisbon Township after being elected as an Adams County legislator that year for what then may have been considered an unusual distinction – he served twice consecutively under two different administrations as Ulysses S Grant’s running mate on four occasions! In 1901 when Cleveland annexed Warren County most of what now makes up Akron took form including parts of Holmesville township including much of what became Masons territory until 1953 when those boundaries were redefined by Warren county commissioners following annexation into Cleveland proper – making Masons effectively contiguous again with its predecessor townships! Furthermore given that while Akron proper had no municipal boundary limits originally there soon sprang up various “motorist” areas adjacent or incident to villages within city limits such as Whitehall Heights which evolved into today’s Southgate Village/Allegheny Hill neighborhoods just outside downtown Cleveland proper! Today particularities still abound here like high rates for property taxes simply because of its location surrounded by municipalities but also due largely to Masonic Lodge No 7 & St John Ambrosian Catholic Church which together have some $225K+ annual sales tax revenue generated!!!!!

Mason is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 24,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1811 by Nicholas Mason as a small community on the Scioto River west of Akron. The first settler in Mason was Samuel Warner, who built his home on what is now State Route 8 near the intersection of US 12 and SR 8 (now NW 9th Street). In 1824, Washington Irving moved from New York City to start a new life in what would become Mason and named it for General James K. Polk, who had been president during much of that year's turmoil following the conclusion of the American Revolution. The town grew rapidly due to its location downstream from major transportation hubs such as Erie Canal traffic on Lake Erie and via Canandaigua and Youngstown Railroad lines reaching into Ohio counties to serve mining operations around Ashtabula County northward to Toledo; however, after timber shortages caused by overgrazing led to receivership proceedings in 1858–59, development slowed until railroad construction recommenced in 1870 created jobs throughout central Ohio which drove growth once again starting in 1901 In 1907–08 African Americans were allowed voting through local election boards but this privilege continued only until 1915 when full civil rights were granted with passage of The Civil Rights Act Amendments of 1964 In 1957 Mason became one of eighteen cities located within Greater Cleveland Combined Statistical Area; today it is also part of North Central Ohio statistical area In 1970 Masons western border changed hands when Ashtabula County left Lucas County effective November 1st 1971 becoming Ashtabula Township . On July 15th 1984 both townships amalgamated forming an unincorporated community called "Mason" still existing today
