Mason, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 7,512 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Lima-Canton-Marathon County region of the Great Lakes region. The village of Mason was founded in 1814 by Mormon pioneers and named for George Mason, who served as one of the first Representatives from Virginia to the United States Congress. Mason's history dates back to 1814 when Mormon pioneers began moving westward through what is now central Ohio under the leadership of Brigham Young and David Whitmer. In 1815, they founded what would become Mason Village on land that had been donated by George Mason, one of America's Founding Fathers and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. In 1821, they moved their village to its present location on State Route 23 east of Lima after finding it too difficult to build there on account of sandbars created by Lake Erie's waves crashing against its shores. The community was originally called Swissvale because it lay near a valley where water could be drawn from springs nearby without having to go far down into the earth. When residents petitioned for a post office in 1828, they were given approval to name their new village "Mason." The name stuck and has remained unchanged since then; even though other nearby villages have changed hands over time (Owen Heights became Lima in 1902, Niles took over in 1954), Mason has always been an important part of central Ohio society due to its location within easy driving distance both north and south and because it offers plentyof shopping opportunities while also boasting excellent schools including two high school districts (Lima-Canton Municipal Schools District #1 & Lima-Canton Municipal Schools District #2). In addition to its importance as a local center for commerce and education, Mason has long been known for its rich architectural history dating back more than two centuries! Many buildings that are still standing or have recently undergone renovation are representative examples such as The Masonic Temple which was built in 1830s as an opera house and still uses many features from that era including stage curtains made from tulips! Another popular attraction here is The Hermitage Museum which reopened following extensive restoration work done by volunteers during 2007/2008! Mason, Ohio is a small town in the southern part of the U.S., located on the banks of the Little Miami River. The population was 4,692 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Mason were French traders in 1692 and 1704 who traded with the local people and found them to be friendly and content with their lives. In 1764, John Marshall founded a ferry across the Little Miami River to bring goods from Pittsburgh to Cleveland. This allowed for trade between these two cities and also helped develop commerce within what would become Ohio. The town was named after James Mason, an American Revolutionary War patriot and delegate from Fairfax County, Virginia who served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1777-1779 and then as Secretary of State in George Washington's cabinet during his first term as president. In 1809, James Knoppers built a mill on Cuyahoga Creek which became known as Knoppers' Mill until it was destroyed by fire in 1825. The next year saw another important event when Andrew Carnegie built a flour mill on Superior Avenue near where present day First United Methodist Church stands today (1893). This made Mason one of America's leading flour producing towns at that time along with Battle Creek Michigan and Aurora Illinois. In 1827, George Stephenson built a railroad through central Ohio connecting Cincinnati with Toledo via Meadville which caused great demand for goods transported downriver to Chicago via this rail corridor by big companies such as McCormick & Co., J&J Galleriesand Sears Roebuck & Co.. Manufacturing operations began inland around this time including breweries such as Jenrys Brewery (now Pabst Brewing Company) started by John Jenkins in 1859; Wurtsmith Brewery started by Augustus Wurtsmith in 1870; Beecham Paper Products started by Lewis Beecham in 1895; American Can Factory started by George Henniker in 1907; Eastern Tool Works started by Hiram Wright starting 1918; now Maytag Corporation traces its roots back to this early days including Maytag Sewing Machine Company being founded December 12th 1862 which produced machines for General Electric beginning 1915 During World War II many residents enlisted or volunteered for military service including Women Army Auxiliary Corps (WACs), 509th Bombardment Wing Commandos (later 902d Bombardment Wing), Navy Seaman School Training Unit #8 "Tommy" (1941-1942) and US Coast Guard Cutter Noordhoff 1944-1945 among others Since 1951 there has been an annual Pumpkin Festival celebration held at Children's Park adjacent to Masonic Templegrounds throughout October featuring arts & crafts booths, food trucks/restaurants etc...This celebrates fall culture & traditions
