The first target holders were made in Marysville, Ohio in the early 1800's. The first shot at a target was fired by Captain John Dickey of the Union Navy from a small boat on the river. Captain Dickey is credited with starting the shooting sport in America. Up until that time, most Americans either hit their targets with an old rifle or bow and arrow. Target shooters from all around America would come to Marysville to shoot at local farmers' markets and other private events. The first permanent target holder facility was built in 1892 by Dr. George W. Hartsfield and his son-in-law, Jabez Mason. This facility became known as the Hartsfield Gunnery School, which still exists today and conducts classes for people of all ages interested in learning how to shoot accurately at targets (www.hartfieldschoolofshooting). In 1924, Harry Elmer Barnes established what is now called The Arsenal Sporting Goods Company in Marysville with the goal of becoming America's leading retailer of target holders and related equipment. From its inception until 1978, Barnes had a significant impact onMarysville Shooting History through its donations of equipment and resources to various organizations such as the Ohio Historical Society (OHHS), Heritage Foundation (HF), Chamber of Commerce (COC) & Community Foundation (CF). In 1978, Harry Elmer Barnes passed away without leaving any children behind to continue his legacy within our community; so it was decided that his company should be given over entire name - Barnes & Noble Incorporated - which continues to this day as one of America's leading retailers for target holders products! In honor of Harry Elmer Barnes' contributions to our community throughout these many years, we have bestowed upon him an award named "Harry Elmer Barnes Award" which goes annually given out by OHHS/HF/COC/CF towards someone who has made a significant contribution to shooting sports education within our state or country!

Marysville is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town site was founded by General John Custer and his troops during the American Civil War on November 12, 1864. The name came from Mount Mary in Ireland where General Custer's regiment had been quartered before its deployment to Missouri to fight for the Union. The first store in Marysville opened in 1865. The town rapidly grew and by 1870 there were ten stores, two hotels and a post office. By 1878 Marysville had six schools and one printing press. In 1886 the construction of a railroad led to an increase in business and development; by 1900 there were twelve stores, four hotels and fifteen homes. In 1918 Advance Manufacturing Company moved its operations from Cleveland to Marysville when that city became baseball's new capital of America following World War I. That year also saw the opening of First Christian Church which still operates as a Methodist church today. During World War II more than 1,500 men from Marysville served in various units including the US Navy destroyer USS "Winthrop" (DD-724) which operated out of Mare Island Naval Shipyards; members of the local high school Varsity Men’s Basketball team played their last game as part of Roosevelt High School’s “All-America” team on December 15th 1945 against Findlay Jesuit High School (Cleveland), 97-75 giving Roosevelt their only victory over Findlay since 1942! Ralph Wimmer who coached both teams went on to become head coach at Butler University varsity football where he currently leads Butler to their seventeenth consecutive bowl victory! According to the 2000 census, there are now 4 people living alone who own no land: 2 women widowed after 20 years or less with children younger than 17 years old & an unmarried African American male under 25 years old
The first target holders were invented in 1871. They consisted of a metal frame with a hole drilled in it, through which the shooter could thread a cue stick or other object to hold the target. The shooters would then stand behind the holder and pull the trigger, causing the target to fly out of range. These early holders were not very effective, so they were not commonly used. However, around 1902, a new type of target holder was developed that consisted of two pieces of metal that were connected by an elastic band. When pulled tight against the stopwatch or other object held by the shooter, the two pieces would move together and create a realistic representation of a moving target. This type of holder became popular because it allowed for more accurate shots than traditional targets. After World War II,Target Holder Development began on an intensified basis in order to improve upon existing Holder Technology and make them more efficient and durable. In 1957, Target Holder Improvement Company was founded in order to develop new methods for holding targets including using nylon straps instead of metal frames; adding weights or objects to change their positioning; and incorporating telescopic sights into holders so that they could be adjusted accordingly with different distances from the ground. In 1976,the first successful firing at 100 yards using modern technology occurred when 12 people participated in what is now known as “The First Olympics” shooting competition using Target Holder Technology at Butte Meadow Golf Course in Northern California . subsequently this event proved to be much more difficult than initially anticipated due to changing wind conditions which caused many misses; however overall everyone involved felt confident about their ability to shoot accurately at 100 yards using Target Holder Technology

Marysville is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,758 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie metropolitan area. In 1811 when its post office was renamed Marysville, it was located on the east side of the Monongahela River about two miles from where present-day Marysville stands. The first settler in what is now Marysville was Nicholas Goodrich and his family about 1790. They started a small farm on land that today includes much of downtown Marysville and parts of Whittemore and Newburgtown neighborhoods. In 1814, James Purdy moved to what is now MarysVILLE with his family from Scotland and founded the town on lands donated by Purdy’s brother-in-law, Daniel McIntosh. James Purdy became one of the first white men to own land in this area and built a home here which still stands today as one of downtown's most popular tourist attractions. The early growth in MarysVILLE was due to its location close to major transportation arteries such as Route 8 (now I-70) and US 19/US 271 which connected these rural areas with larger cities like Cleveland and Cincinnati. Many citizens took advantage of these routes for commerce, travel or simply avoiding long trips by boat acrossriver on weekends or during holidays. By 1830, many homes had been constructed within the current boundaries of downtownMarySVILLE along Third Street between Canal Square East (now Trumbull Avenue) and Market Street West (now Center Court). This rapid growth led to numerous streets being named after prominent citizens or nearby families who had contributed financially or materially to their development: Fourth Street North (later Elmira Road), Fifth Street South (later First Avenue West), Sixth Street East (later Second Avenue West), Seventh Street North (later Maple Drive), Eighth Street South (later Waterfront Drive). During this time period significant progress was made in developing public education within this rural community; school district #2 opened its doors in 1831; Methodist Reverend John Davenport set up shop here soon after arriving from Kentucky; Isaac Dunham erected a log church in 1835 – one of only two churches ever built west of the Allegheny Mountains; courthouse building construction began shortly thereafter under guidance from Revessors David Brownell and Elijah Howe; Methodists congregated regularly at First Methodist Church until 1840 when they withdrew because they were not given religious status by state officials; several stores were established around this time including Butters grocery store (#1) operated by Rufus Higgins & Sons sr.; plumber Jonas Wirthman installed water pressure systems for many homes becoming one of America's first successful commercial developers In 1850 all schools were closed due lack Of Funds but classes continued at Female Seminary until 1861 When new School District #3 formed which lasted until 1980 . Most notably during this time period some excellent architecture & engineering achievements were accomplished such as: four overshot arches found near intersection 5th St & 2nd Ave NW - Replaced an earlier single arch road bridge originally built there circa 1800 In 1860 brick manufacturing began operations adjacent to then current site Of State House building where bricks are still processed daily
In 1815, Marysville was founded by John and Susannah Morse. The town was named after the mother of the Morse brothers, Mary Ann. The first school in the town was started in 1817. In 1830, Marysville became a village. The first post office in Marysville was established in 1836. In 1870, the United States Postal Service moved to Marysville from Mansfield and continued to operate there until it closed its operations in 1971. The population of Marysville peaked at around 12,000 people in 1930 but have since declined slightly due to various factors including suburbanization and economic decline.
