Marysville, Ohio is a community located in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Jasper-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first shootings in Marysville took place on December 3rd, 1868 when John D. Gorham shot and killed James Wixson in what is now known as Gorham’s Alley. On October 14th of that year, Charles Fenton shot and killed Julius Caesar McClusky during an altercation outside a store in Marysville. March 12th 1865 saw the death of Abram Hubbell after he was fatally shot by Andrew J. Purdy while working at a grocery store on Main Street. In 1875 it was reported that two men had been involved in murder within one week of each other; this led to the formation of the Marysville Police Department which still exists today. On November 15th, 1902 two gunmen entered an occupied house near where current day baseball stadium stands and opened fire killing five people including four children and one man before escaping back into Mexico City with their firearms arsenal . This event has been called “The Great Muskegon Shooting” because it left such a lasting impression on America due to its brazenness and notoriety among law enforcement officials everywhere who were able to track down and apprehended both killers resultant from their daring crime spree throughout the Midwest U S . A total of 21 suspects have been charged with crimes stemming from this incident but no one has ever been convicted for any homicide committed within Muskegon County . Marysville is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located along the Scioto River. The population was 2,886 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for Mary Custis, widow of General George Washington and mother of President James K. Polk. The first settler to arrive in what is now Marysville was Nicholas Swenarton in 1792. One of the early businesses in Marysville was a ferry service across the Scioto River which provided transportation to nearby towns such as Miamisburg and Xenia. In 1819, General John Cushing laid out a township on land he had purchased from Nicholas Swenarton and others around this time period for $5 per acre (equal to $ today). The Township Act of 1821 created seventeen townships within present day Medina County including Marysville, Delaware, Grant Township (now Westlake Heights), Lebanon Township (now Union), New Castle Township (now North Manchester), Ottawa Township (now Sayre Center), Scott Township (now Geauga Heights), Summit Township (now Fairview Heights), Vandalia Township (now Mentor) and Washington Twp.(later that name changed to Cleveland). Marysville became an incorporated village on April 1, 1839 when it joined Medina County under the leadership of Mayor Moses Silliman with twenty five other villages form neighboring counties including Athens, Fairfield ni Ohio; Macedonia ni Ohio; Youngstown; Portsmouth; Warren; Henderson; Columbiana ni Ohio and Lima ni Ohio all seeking incorporation because they were refused by their respective county commissioners due to lack of population or infill potential at that time. On July 15th 1840 Village President James Waddell announced that voting had been completed for charter members with seventy one votes being cast against chartering followed by approval by a majority vote on August 3rd 1840 after presentation from Town Clerk John Purdy who said "It seems proper we should have this body formed into an organized village." In 1815, Marysville was a small village in the west side of Ohio. It was named after Maria, the daughter of Captain John Smith and his wife Susannah. The village grew slowly until it had a population of about 100 people in 1830. In 1833, the Village bought land on the east side of the Scioto River from Simon Girty and laid out a town there. The first school was built in 1834, and by 1840, Marysville had a population of 400 people. The town experienced growth until the American Civil War ended its existence in 1865. Marysville has been home to numerous businesses over its history including several breweries and three banks which remain active today. It is also known for its cheese production and for being an important depot for goods travelling between Cincinnati and Cleveland during times when those two cities were separated by water barriers.

The town of Marysville was founded in 1805 by Peter and Martha Morehouse. The Morehouses were a Quaker family who ranched land in the area. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources, especially timber and coal. In 1824, the town was renamed for General George Washington. In 1828, the town incorporated as a village. In 1840, the village merged with Marysville Township to form the present-day city of Marysville.
