The first rifle stocks in Marysville were built by Captain John C. Young in 1841. The first rifles to be sold in the town were Indian guns. In 1847, Captain Young built a gunsmith shop and began selling rifles. He also built a barn for storage and used it as a shooting ground. In 1849, Captain Young married Mrs. Maria Ladd and the couple moved to Marysville. They started a grocery store and later opened a hotel. By 1861, the town had about 100 residents and the population increased to 300 by 1865 when they founded the Marysville Navigation Company which traded goods with Canada and Mexico
Marysville is a small town in the heart of Ohio. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north bank of the Mahoning River, about 15 miles east of Columbus and 25 miles west of Cleveland. The town was founded in 1796 by General George Washington and his wife Martha who named it for Mount Mary in Ireland. The first settler was Samuel Morse. In 1814, John Cogswell platted what would become Marysville and laid out streets and erected a schoolhouse. In 1825, Isaac Aspinwall platted an area that now includes Marysville, laid out more streets and erected a courthouse. In 1830, Josephine Hendrickson built a log cabin near the current site of downtown Marysville to serve as her home until she could purchase land from Major William Stephenson for $10 per acre (sqft). Mrs. Hendrickson started public schools in her house which continue to this day as the pioneer woman's school District No. 2 (now part of Lorain County School District #2). A post office called Marysville was established in 1836, and remained open until 1907. The first store opened in 1839 by Wm Higginson with supplies from Lancaster County; it closed around 1850 because there wasn't enough business to support it. A gristmill was built on the riverbank in 1840 by Jesse Hardwick; it also closed around 1850 because there wasn't enough flour available to support it A sawmill was built on the riverbank in 1844 by Levi Coffin; it also closed around 1850 because there wasn't enough wood available to support it A blacksmith shop opened on Main Street in 1865 by Solomon Lovejoy; this shop continued operation until 1901 A livery stable opened on Gibbs Road near East Market Street in 1886 by Fenton Noyes; this stable continued operation until 1951 An ice cream parlor opened on Third Avenue between Prospect Avenue and Mayfair Drive during World War II by Mrs . Lura Mathis ; this parlor continued operations until 1954 when its business became successful enough that she moved into her own building . In 1957, Pee Wee Goudreau donated land adjacent to his grocery store for use as a high school football field which served as the core plot for creating Orchard Park Shopping Center . From 1959-1962, local artist Don Kiley created art installations entitled "Opera der Sterne" outdoors along Third Avenue between Prospect Avenue and Mayfair Drive- these were demolished after he died but have been preserved as part of Orchard Park Shopping Center lore . Today MarysVILLE still has its namesake creek running through town center- provide endless opportunities for water sports!

In 1814, Marysville was a small village in the Miami Valley of Ohio. It was founded by John Dearborn and his wife,Elizabeth Ann Dearborn, on the banks of the river near present-day Marysville. The Dearborn's were pioneer farmers and entrepreneurs who had come to Ohio from Scotland in 1795. They purchased land east of Cincinnati and started a wheat farming operation that became one of the largest in Ohio. In 1825, they sold their farm and moved to what is now Marysville because it offered more scenic features than any other location in central Ohio. The town was named for Mrs. Dearborn's mother, Mayflower Lady Mary (1784-1856). When she died in 1828, her husband donated land to the town to make it a permanent settlement. The first post office was established at Marysville on October 15, 1829. By 1830, there were around 100 people living in the village.
