He built a cabin here and started trading goods with Indians along the route that led to Cincinnati. By 1840, there were over 100 people living in Marysville when it was platted as a village by Captain James Kuykendall (). The first post office was established in Marysville on October 20, 1841 (); mail service began between Cincinnati and various other settlements through Stage Coach Company coaches running daily until 1861 when it became an express service with trains ran only once per week On July 8th 1860 Indian trader James Fenton died while crossing Big Beaver Creek at milepost 3 on stagecoach road from Dayton to Lebanon Township; his wagon filled with goods destined for Cincinnati derailed half way across and all his merchandise got lost including horses & cattle valued at around $2500 A large search party composed mainly of volunteers under command of Captains Alex Goodspeed & Solomon Northcote searched for days but no trace could be found so Fenton's body was never found or recovered despite numerous requests from local residents . On September 4th 1860 during its centennial celebration America's First Railroad company opened its railroad line between Dayton - Middletown - Cincinnati - Cleveland - Akron – Columbus – Indianapolis via Albany – Chicago Overland Mail
