Marysville is a town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,437 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima– Marysville–Canton, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Marysville were Daniel and Esther French. Esther had married a German immigrant named Bauer who had come to America in 1795. Daniel French also came over from France in 1800. They started a grocery store on the corner of State Street and 2nd Avenue which later became known as the French Store and still stands today. In 1814 they built a gristmill on High Street which still stands today and produced flour for local markets until it was replaced by the current mill in 1907. In 1821 they erected a schoolhouse on High Street which still stands today. That same year they voted to erect a courthouse next to their store but it never materialized because they did not have enough money to pay for it! In 1827 they voted to rename themselves Marysville after General John Custer during his military expedition against Indian Chief Black Hawk that resulted in his death at Battle of Little Big Horn Battlefield near Fort Dearborn, Kansas. In 1850 George Washington Carver moved from Delaware Valley into Columbiana County with his family and began farming hereabouts including land now located within the town limits of Marysville proper. He founded Carver’s Millshops here in 1853 which remain one of the oldest commercial enterprises west of the Alleghenies to this day operating under present management as Pennzoil Corporation's Maryland facilities." "It was not until 1870 when railroad construction reached this area that mills along both sides of the tracks began operation producing textile products such as hosiery, cotton twill fabric, worsted yarn, lace yarn and other fine fabrics for export." During this time period there were several significant events that took place inMarysville including: 1) A company was organized to provide construction materials for Fort Knox during the war between America and Europe 2) A bridge was built over the river at present day downtown Myslowney 3) A Presbyterian church was built in 1859 4) A subscription drive resulted in the purchase by Mre George Leaoford of 850 acres near present day Park Hills for use as farmland
