Marion, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,827. The town was founded by General George Washington in 1781 as part of the Northwest Territory. It became a village in 1803 and a city in 1907. The name Marion comes from an Indian word meaning "a place where there are cottonwoods." The first white settler in Marion was George Washington who came to the area in 1781 as part of the Northwest Territory. He built a cabin on what is now State Street and named it after his home state of Virginia-the site had been chosen because there were several cottonwood trees near his house. In 1803, Marion became a village when it joined Athens Township which had been formed two years earlier from parts of Scioto and Trumbull counties. In 1907, Marion became an incorporated city when it voted to become one with Middletown Township which also included Stratholme and Elyria villages though those towns did not join until 1912. From its incorporation until 1920, Marion served as its own municipally-owned water system with its own police department and fire engine company under contract with Middletown Township except for wartime periods when it operated under government auspices at Columbus Municipal Airport adjacent to downtown Columbus while Middletown operated all other municipal services including streetlights and trash collection within city limits In 2000, RaceTrac Incorporated merged into Cincinnati Bell Business Services Company (CBBS) forming RaceTrac/Cincinnati Bell Communications Company LLC which is headquartered in Cincinnati OH In early 2016 RaceTrac announced that they would be closing their doors effective September 1st due to financial difficulties On February 14th 2020 RaceTrac filed for bankruptcy

The town first started trading with other countries through merchant vessels. By 1830, local farmers had started growing corn and wheat which they exported to other states. In 1834, a canal was built connecting Lake Erie and the Scioto River which made it easier for goods to be transported between Marion and other parts of Ohio. This allowed for more jobs and more businesses to open up in town. In 1840, a school was opened up in town which became one of the first public schools in this region. It remained open until 1952 when it was closed due to budget cuts by then-Mayor John Husted. In 1847, several mills were built as part of a agricultural boom that took place throughout Northwest Ohio during this time period. These mills helped produce goods such as flour, cotton ginned cloths, sugar beets, lumber, cheese and eggs among others. After World War I ended in 1918, the area saw an increase in manufacturing because many people left agriculture for new career opportunities elsewhere after the war ended. Today, Marion is home to many businesses that continue its tradition of providing quality products at reasonable prices along with its rich history dating back over 100 years!
In 1819, a group of men from Marion Township settled on the land that would become Ohio. They named their new town after General George Washington and his army's march through the area in 1775. The town was first called Ghent, but it was renamed to Marion in honor of General Washington. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was founded.
