Scope mounts in Marion, Ohio date back to the early 1800s. In 1811, a group of investors bought a farm in rural Marion and began to build a sawmill. They named the mill The Mount Carmel Saw Mill. The mill was built on the edge of what is now known as Park Street, about two miles east of town. By 1814, the sawmill had been converted into a gristmill. In 1824, John Denny opened a post office at the mill. That year, he also purchased land east of town and developed it into what is today known as Park Square Village. He erected a wooden frame courthouse and jail in 1830 and named it Independence Hall. In 1836, he sold his property to General David Davis for $5,000 dollars. General Davis renamed it Park Avenue after himself and his wifeCongresswoman Anna Menard (1802-1885). In 1840, Jno Beasley built anudder sawmill on speculation that increased production from one plant could lead to new sales throughout the area around it (Beasley's mills were located along Park Avenue). By 1850, Beasley's mills had produced over 1 million board feet of lumber each day! However, by 1861 Beasley's mills were having difficulty meeting demand due to increasing competition from Valley Mills in Dayton and other manufacturers who had moved into central Ohio during this time period. For several years following its closure in 1861, Beasley's mill occupied part of what is now called First National Bank Building on Fifth Street in downtown Marion; however efforts by local citizens to save it eventually led to its demolition in 1917 without ever being restored or operating again since then! It is located about 25 miles north-northwest of Cleveland and 50 miles south-southwest of Akron. The area that became Marion was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. In 1812, Colonel John Evans founded a trading post in what is now Marion and named it for General James Wilkinson, who had fought with British forces during the War of 1812. In 1817, William Halleck built a home here which he called "Halleck's Grove". The post office was moved to Marion in 1827. In 1830, David Denny founded an Agricultural Society here to improve soil quality and provide more food for local livestock. He also donated land for a public school district that would later become University Heights School District #2A (now known as Perrysburg Township). In 1865, David Denny's son John Fenton bought 8 acres from his father for $10 per acre; this became what is now Northside Drive (the current route of Saginaw Road). On February 14, 1889, President Grover Cleveland signed into law creation of University Heights School District #2A with land parcels from David Denny's original donation plus eight others Near East Side Township (now part of Mount Pleasant), Ansonia Township (now part of Bellefontaine), Clinton Township (now part of Parma), Delaware County (then Warren County), Holmes County (then Huron County) and parts or all of Beech Grove Township., among many others . There were over 6500 people living in Marion when it became Uniontown on November 1st 1912 due to annexation by University Heights School District #2A from near East Side Township including much older villages like Westville and Springvale which merged into larger settlements such as Norwalk/Bridgeport after World War I . With less than one fifth the population as there are today only 2 businesses still open down Main Street making it difficult to get around without help even if you can find someone willing to give you directions despite being newlyweds! The town of Marion, Ohio was founded by the American colonists in 1788. The area now known as Marion was first inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Shawnee tribe. In 1814, a post office called "Marion" was established in what is today the town of Ottawa. By 1828, the population of Marion had reached 1,500 people and it became an independent township. On February 14, 1836, Marion incorporated as a village with a population of only 100 people. However, on April 12, 1840, the village merged with the townships of Ottawa and West Chester to form the new town of Marion. The original name for Marion was variations such as Frenchtown or Indian Town before it became its current name which honors General George Washington's aide-de-camp during his military campaigns in America. In 1870, when Ohio adopted its General Statutes Relative To Education (GS 27), one provision mandated that all schools be open to children from 6 years old until graduation from high school regardless of race or sex. As part of this effort to provide educational opportunities for all citizens under government auspices, President Ulysses S. Grant awarded $10 million dollars to improve public education in Ohio through various programs including construction of state colleges and universities and creation of teacher training institutions throughout the state system. With these advancements came increased racial tension across America due to newly emerging problems like Reconstructionism and lack thereof progressivism among white Americans who felt they were being taken advantage by African Americans who were coming into power at a time when white society needed more Integration into American culture than ever before! In 1913-1914, Congress passed Public Law No: 792 providing funds for building railroads throughout Indiana Territory which would connect Chicago with points north while also enabling West Point graduate Colonel John Jorgensen to build a railroad line south from Columbus via Indianapolis! This event led directly to organized labor becoming available within White Americaat a time when Black America still awaited emancipation from European slave masters! In 1916-1920 Major General Leonard Wood served as Commandant/Governor at Fort Riley where he supervised soldiers engaged in combat against Native Americans during World War I! AfterWWI ended and troops returned home following Victory Parade duty around November 11th 1918 - many young men seeking their first tasteof combat decided PostwarAmerica offered plentyofopportunities FOR THEM TO GETIN THEMILITARY!! A few weeks later on December 15th 1918-- after dayslong demonstration outsideofUlyssesSGates house--the United States Military Tribunal Act (Public Law 95–6)waspassedin responsetothedemonstrationsandthethreatto revolutionary violence!. The tribunal act authorize military judges appointed by executive order rather than through legislation or political process to hear violations committed during World War I!!! This law made possible investigating officers such as Generals Pershing & MacArthur while also giving civilians access to U.S justice!!! Afteryearsof litigation--including several unsuccessful attempts culminatingin 1939witha presidential pardonforGeneralGeorge WASHINGTON!--Marion finally received court approvaltoconstructitsveryown courthouseon October 24th 1945!!!!!!!!!
