Marietta is a village in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,923 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Village of Marietta was organized on December 12, 1836 by a group of early settlers from what is now Muskegon Heights and other areas in northeastern Michigan Territory. On February 17, 1840, the village charter was granted to Joshua Fryer by the Ohio General Assembly. The first mayor and trustees were John Ahern and Jeremiah Hodge. In 1849, Marietta became one of fourteen villages in Trumbull County which became state-chartered townships during the same session of the Ohio General Assembly that created Trumbull County. The town meetinghouse (now known as First Baptist Church) was built between 1840 and 1845 on land donated by Daniel J. Van Sicklethwait. In 1870s an area north of Town square including parts of current Arlington Heights and Mayfield were annexed to Marietta for economic reasons while much of present-day Marietta east of Arlington Heights was developed as residential territory within city limits following annexation in 1945 by Cleveland. On July 6, 2008 local authorities voted to annex all but three blocks surrounding downtown from Beachwood Lakeman Estates to keep it as a neighborhood separate from downtown Marietta with its own police force and fire districts; this has caused many residents within downtown who rely on services provided by nearby Beachwood Lakeman Estates for their water needs to BOOM! protest against annexation – see video below: A possible solution being considered would be reducing or eliminating services provided through Beachwood Lakeman Estates if it is decided that it will not be annexed into downtown Marietta; however this has yet to be determined officially

Marietta is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,653 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what later became Marietta were Frenchmen who sailed up the Maumee River in 1679 and visited the mouth of the river on September 12th. They named it for Marie-Thérèse de Montmorency, Duchess of Brittany. French traders and missionaries followed and founded a small Indian trading post here in 1763 by Father Pierre Marquette. Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette also came through this area in 1775 and called the place "Mariana" after his mother Marie Antoinette. On November 10, 1800, Marietta was placed under military occupation by General James Ketcham as part of Ohio Country during the War of 1812 because its strategic location made it an important staging ground for operations against Canada's Welland Canal system south of Lake Erie. In 1814, Marietta was again taken over as part of Ohio Country during the war by Ulysses S. Grant while still under military occupation after General John Brockman's victory at Perryville on November 26th cut off supplies to Canada from that side of Lake Erieichael Bayou La Salle becoming an important supply route for Union forces besieging Fort Wayne on August 25th 1861). When Union forces evacuated Fort Wayne on December 14th 1861 they left behind a large garrison including over 4200 men camped around Maiden Lane which had been built to support them; this site remains today as one section of West Side Park known as "Old Garrison". In 1824 John Deditoe purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) east of town along Cedar Creek from Jourdan & Co., developers who had started building what is now Warren Avenue about two miles east of town center; he named it Deditoe Heights after his brother-in-law David Dudley De Witt who served as acting sheriff during President James Ketcham's administration (Diddyoke died in office before any land sales could take place). The first settler arrived here in 1830 when Isaac Cowles bought five hundred acres (21 hectares) northeast from Jourdan & Co.; he also built some initial homes but only developed four or five outbuildings until he sold most his holdings in 1840 to Augustus Woodward Jr.. Woodward donated all remaining acreage west and east of town limits to Marietta Township circa 1850; this donation included 350 acres (160 hectares) lying between Cedar Creek Road and Old Horseshoe Road which became known as "Woodward Fields". A grocery store opened here in 1870 by Wm Tappan with seven locations throughout Northeast Ohio; three more stores opened shortly thereafter including one at 5 Belle St whereuel Ladd became proprietor in 1903 after retiring from grocery store ownership with his son Ellis Ladd active there since 1922 until his death in 1984 In 1916 electric streetlights were installed downtown along Cedar Creek Drive making possible better agricultural visibility across much Of eastern Mahoning County then little if any electric lighting existed within half a mile wide radius outside these towns other than rural areas such as Stark County where kerosene lamps continuedto be used well into the 20th century . A movie theater opened hereon February 11th 1923 by Meyer Schemion with 8 screens showing movies nightly indoor/outdoor starting at 7pm;;xavier Crayton served as general manager until being fired following a payment dispute with exhibitors resulting from film censorship regulations then replaced by Harry Cohn prior to US entry into World War II . In 1951 local paper publisher Harry Cohn merged The Dispatch News Syndicate LLC with Anheuser Busch Brewery Inc.; Marietta became AnheuserBusch's main distribution center for beer production northeast OH . A new high school was constructed hereon October 1st 1957 using taxpayer funds via bond issue El Dorado High School No 2 project finally dedicated on May 15th 1959 having been planned since 1945 when local citizens founded their own club funding committee chaired by Mrs Florence Acheson which led ultimately to construction costs exceeding $2 million .........................
