The first settler in Maple Heights was Amos Worthy, who arrived in 1795. He and his family were among the first to plat this area and named it after the maple tree that grew near their home. Maple Heights initially consisted of only two homes and a few acres of land. The Worthy family operated a mill in the early 1800s until it closed due to sheriff's raids. In 1825, John Perkins moved from Delaware Township to start his own farm here on what would later be known as Perkins Road. Mr. Perkins had some success growing corn, beans, potatoes and other vegetables but he died young at age 49 in 1852 while still farming here with his wife and six children. In 1870s-1880s much of what is now Maple Heights was built up around Union Cemetery which served as an important burial ground for many residents including many prominent citizens such as Hamilton Fish (Governor of New York), George Stephenson (Secretary of State), James Kieft (founder of Cleveland) and others during that time period In 1892 when Summit County was created from parts of Trumbull County it included Maple Heights within its boundaries When Summit County became stately by adding Blackwater Township to its borders in 1912, Maple Heights again fell within its boundaries It wasn't until 1945 that MAPLE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY COLONY OF THE AMERICAN REFUGEES WAS founded here by Reverend Solomon Hirschfield with support from Congressman Emanuel Celler MAPLE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY COLONY OF THE AMERICAN REFUGEES became self-sufficient following World War II with help from local businesses such as Ford Motorships and General Mills On July 1st 1957 MAPLE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY COLONY OF THE AMERICAN REFUGEES merged into VALLEY VIEW UNITED STATES COMMUNITY COLONY WITH similar name which then became VALLEY VIEW ISLANDER RESIDENCE on Long Island Sound where you can find today's house line marked "Hawkeye" on opposite side street

In 1925, the United States Supreme Court ruled that Ohio must give women the right to vote. This decision helped make maple hearts more visible throughout America because women were no longer considered second-class citizens.
