It continued to grow through the 1800s and into the 20th century until it lost its way and declined steadily throughout much of that time. In 1958, however, maple Heights picked up where it left off- becoming one of Ohio's most successful communities once again! The community has continued to thrive ever since- despite some tough times along the way. Today, maple Heights is a vibrant community with friendly people and plenty of opportunities for growth.
Maple Heights is a small town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Maple Heights is located on the southern border of Cleveland and is bordered by Springboro on the east, Cuyahoga Falls on the west, and Garfield Township to the north. The first Europeans to visit Maple Heights were French traders in 1688. John Clemens had a farm there in 1795 and named it after his home town of Maple Junction in Quebec, Canada. In 1814, George Washington bought 8 acres (3 hectares) of land from James Caldwell for $2 worth of goods he had brought over as a trader with Colonel Christopher Gist. Washington built a cabin here called "Gist's Mount". The community grew quickly because many farmers found ways to get their products to Cleveland without traveling great distances. In 1827, Congress passed an act authorizing township formations within Summit County and one of these was for Maple Heights; this gave residents more control over their lives than they had before. In 1835, Captain George Stephenson founded what would later become known as Lakewood Village when he donated land for its construction on what is now West Side Highway nears where he had seen coal seams in what would become Cleveland. This village incorporated as a village in 1870 under charter from State Senator David Williams name change due to anti-immigrant sentiment at that time among some citizens who felt that ethnic Germans were taking away jobs from native-born Americans although no evidence existed to support this claim

Maple Heights is a small town in the Cincinnati metropolitan area, located east of downtown. The population was 10,855 at the 2010 census. The Village of Maple Heights was organized in 1908, and became a township in 1912. It was renamed Maple Heights Township on December 1, 1928. Its first mayor was Fenton Davenport. The village first began to grow around an elementary school which had been built in 1892 by John Sprague and his wife Annabelle Sprague. A new school building was built for the village in 1908, and it soon became home to more than just children; adults also lived there until 1919 when the first post office opened. In 1915, Maple Heights voted to become a city, but this vote failed because of lack of votes from other municipalities within the Cincinnati metropolitan area that were then part of the city limits. On November 8, 1928, voters approved becoming a township due to its growing population and desire for more services available to its residents. On December 1st of that year (the date that Maple Heights Township officially became operational), Mayor Fenton Davenport received his appointment as township trustee effective immediately with full powers over all municipal affairs including taxing and spending decisions within the township boundaries including development rights for any new properties or businesses created within those boundaries- these newly created properties would be subject to referendum approval if they desired annexation into Maple Heights Township or not depending on their assessed value relative to other buildings in their municipality at that time). As can be seen from this brief History section above it has been through many changes over time with some good times along with bad moments such as when much of what is now known as Elmwood Cemetery (later Oakwood Cemetery) was donated by Mrs Sprague herself back when Elmwood consisted only of her own family’s farmsteads which still stands today behind her home on East Swanzy Avenue) before finally becoming open property owned by both the City government/Maple Heights Village & Township government/Maple heights Township since becoming public parkland status effective July 1st 2009 thru January 15th 2021 inclusive!
