That night also saw future president Franklin D Roosevelt make his debut for the Browns over against teammate Joe Garvey. In 1916 Major League Baseball introduced expansion teams into Cleveland and two years later Maple Heights joined forces with Akron to form an all new team called "The Rubber Bowl Club" which played its home games at Municipal Stadium until it burned down in 1954; then they moved to Crosley Field until their move to American Legion Park which they still play at today after being purchased by members of Our Lady's Parish in 2014 In 1952 both teams merged together with Hiram Johnson serving as commissioner until 1957 when he retired after 24 seasons In 1990 City Council passed legislation authorizing annexation of portions of Muskingum Township so that Maple Heights would become a city under Mayor Tom Kiefer who served three terms before leaving office in 2014 On December 3rd 2015Maple Heights became one hundred percent annexed into Akron

In 1957, Maple Heights voters approved annexation into the new City of Cleveland after decades of deliberations over whether or not to become part of that larger community. Since then, Maple Heights has experienced several significant changes – including dramatic decreases in its population (from 14,000 to 6,500) during the Great Recession; increasing Hispanic immigration; increased suburban development; and steady progress towards becoming a more diverse cultural center within Cleveland's boundaries. Nevertheless, despite these challenges – especially since 2007 when a series of hurricanes destroyed many homes in southern parts of town – Maple Heights remains onecrime-free community with vibrant commercial corridors and excellent public schools that serve both local residents and commuters from downtown Cleveland..
