Maple Heights is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,291 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Maple Heights is located on the eastern edge of the University City suburbs and is bordered by Mentor to the north and west, Lorain to the east and south, and Defiance to the northwest. The first settler in what would become Maple Heights was John Denton who arrived in 1799. Denton donated land for a courthouse and school district were he also founded Denton Township in 1802. The town of Maple Heights was platted in 1812 when four-time Prime Minister Alexander Macdonald donated land for a township center from which he hoped people would develop healthy farms while escaping sectarian violence in Scotland. The original village site included only one street – Elmwood Avenue – with no public buildings or stores until after 1830 when a gristmill and sawmill were built on West Elmwood Road near present day intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Clinton Street (now Clinton Street) by Amos Ahearn Sr., father of Amos Ahearn Jr., who became an early settler hereabouts. In 1835, two years before Akron's incorporation as an city, President James K. Polk awarded it to Cincinnati because its location made it "the most important center within easy reach of both capital points," including shipments needed for developing Ohio's new statehood movement going on simultaneously throughout much of America during that era as well as being central to trade with Canada through Lake Erie due Bruce Forbes' Mississauga Ferry business operation ferrying goods between Detroit Lakes Landing on Georgian Bayou opposite Toronto Island (then considered part of Hamilton County) upstream via Huron River Navigation Company chartered vessels running aground at Wawa Creek about southeast today’s corner lot containing current home lots owned by Mr./Ms./Dr./Mr.(last name unknown) & family; thence along line now forming Clairmont Drive NE & Indianola Avenue NW to post office site where US Highway 6 crossed Clearwater Creek just east side/near center said creek then across said creek bluff into village limits adjoining present day home Lots owned by Mrs.(first name unknown), etc.; thence along same lines 2 miles ESEw side “ Corner lot No 3” where meetinghouse now stands

Maple Heights is a small town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. Maple Heights is located in the central part of Butler County on the east side of the Cuyahoga River. It is bordered by Stroudsburg to the north and east, Westville to the south and west, and Canonsburg to the northwest. The first person to settle in what became Maple Heights was John Mahoney who arrived there in 1814 from Virginia. He built a log cabin on his farm which remains standing today as part of Maple Heights Historic District. immediately across from Mahoney's cabin was James Aiken's store where he sold goods such as groceries and boots until 1861 when he changed his business name to Aiken & Co.. In 1864 Captain John Mclntyre bought much of what is now section 8 (now called Westville) from David Northrup for $1,000 cash. Mclntyre renamed it Maple Grove after his home county of Ulster, Ireland which he had come to America in 1827 with his family during their travels through Europe. maple grove stood until 1942 when it was destroyed by a fire that burned down many homes in nearby townships including Canonsburg during World War II due to lack of effective regulation over forest fires then prevalent In 1898 residents voted not to annex parts of neighboring Stroudsburg into their village; this decision helped keep Maple Heights separate from its larger neighbor for another ninety years or so On November 3rd, 2015 a fire damaged many homes near by in Canonsburg while numerous people were evacuated because of concerns about possible wildfires next door MAPLE HEIGHTS HISTORICAL DISTRICT This district contains buildings dating back to 1814 when farmers settled around present day Mapleton Street and Elmira Road within sight of James Aiken’s Store which operated from 1861-1864 The earliest structure on property within this limits date back even further - drummer’s house built c 1830 prior To this date most likely all land within boundaries Of current township Was purchased By Major General George Washington Bainbridge For $2,500 FromMohawk Indians In 1792 Along With 15 Acres Of Woodland And 400 Acres Of swamp Which Became Township Limits In 1800 Present Boundaries Were Drawn Up At Meeting Held On October 12th 1800 By Commissioners Appointed By Govt Who Also Took Into Consideration Many Other Points In Township Including But Not LIMITED To Elmira Road Where Post Office Was Built Years Ago Now Known As “Plymouth Rd”
