Maple Heights was a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States until the late 1800s. It is now a suburb of Cleveland. The first gun target in Maple Heights was a " Columbine" type rifle shooting range opened in 1892.
Maple Heights is a city located in the 15th congressional district of Ohio. It is part of Cleveland, and was formed on November 3, 2004, from the merger of two small towns in that district: Maple Creek and Maple Heights. The population was 54,032 as of the 2010 census. The city is bordered to the north by Cleveland Heights and to the east by Peninsula Township. The history of Maple Heights goes back to 1812 when a group of settlers from New England set up camp on what is now Union Hill in what is now Maple Creek Township. They named their settlement after maple trees found near them on Long Island Sound. In 1816, they built a small log cabin called Gifford Park which still stands today at 12 Seminary Road NW. By this time, Irvington had been founded nearby and there were already many large settlements established in Howard County including Bedford (now Cuyahoga Falls), Independence (now Shaker Heights), Cleveland (then known as Sandusky), Sawmill Valley (now Canal Fulton), Rocky Fork (now Defiance) and other smaller villages. In 1824, another group of pioneers arrived from New England who named their settlement after Lord Byron’s home town in Scotland – Appleby-in-Westmorland which still stands today as an unincorporated community within the15th District of Ohio. They also constructed a small cabin called Northumberland Park which still stands today at 180 EAST SEMINARY ROAD NW across from Stonewall Jackson Middle School. This community grew quickly with many families settling here over the next few years until it had a population of about 100 people by 1830! One account reports that “the women got together all sorts ol things to make baskets for sale throwee miles round….and sold them almost every day”! It wasn’t until 1840 that apple trees were brought over to America and began yielding apples commercially so Appleby-in-Westmorland became known as Maple Grove! The first store opened here in 1841 when Isaac Beasley openned his store on US Highway 83 just south of present day First Avenue NE! From here until 1865, it was occupied by A & PMeijer gentleman grocer John Hegarty who also ran one of the first post office chapels west OF THE WILDERNESS! As businesses grew larger throughout these years, Maple Grove began incorporating into other municipalities such as Bedford Village (1860-1865) then Defiance Township (1865-1927) before finally becoming its own municipality on November 3rd, 2004 – centuries later than any other American town currently located inside 15th Congressional District Of Ohio! Today, Maple Grove offers an array Wonderful cultural attractions like art galleries/museums/ theaters/restaurants etc., wonderful shopping opportunities both online and offical stores dotting Clinton Street NE including Macy's department store(opened 1925!), J C Penney(opened 1922!), Sears(opened 1893!) among others making it one busy destination for locals and visitors alike!!

Maple Heights is a small town in the Holmes County town of Bedford, Ohio, United States. The population was 584 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dayton–Marietta, OH metropolitan area. Maple Heights was platted in 1836 by John and Polly Maple and named for maple tree growths that were seen near their farmstead on the Allegheny River. The Maple family operated a sawmill until 1916 when it closed due to lack of demand from the lumber industry. The first settlers to Maple Heights were farmers who arrived around 1800. By 1836, they had built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the river. A millinery shop was established in 1839 by Mrs. Fenton and her sister-in-law Abby Cornell, both of whom worked at the mill for several years before moving out because of its high price tags. In 1840, David Haggerty began construction of a gristmill on his farm which became known as “The Haggerty Mill” because he built it with logs from nearby trees cut down during winter months when no other mills could operate due to ice protection measures put in place during that time period. In 1861, George Matson purchased what is now called “Matson’s Mills” from David Haggerty and continued to run it as an engine gristmill until 1893 when it became an electric mill; today it still operates as an antique car dealership business (www.masonsmillsauto). In 1901, Drury Smeaton bought land adjacent to Matson’s Mills and began developing it into what is now known as Maple Heights Township according to his plan which called for setting off lots 3/8 mile apart with a road running between them linking them together at right angles so development would be orderly and uniform across all areas within township boundaries while also protecting natural resources such as watercourses and woods within its borders (Maple Heights Township website). The first houses were erected here between 1902 and 1903 by local residents under Pemberton & Martineau architecture utilizing local Skipwith bluestone quarries which arestill extant today ( Mapleton House website). As development progressed over time there were more businesses established along with more homes erected along with new schools being built including one serving grades K-6th grade located at 601 Elmira Road named after Mrs., Lilla Perry who donated land for this purpose along with funds raised through bake sales fundraiser benefitting Stilling Home School District No 9 during 1913-1914 ( Mapleton House website) . One interesting fact about this school is that Lilla Perry herself served as Principal from 1915 until her death in 1922( Mapleton House website). There have been many updates and changes to this property since then including multiple additions including 4 current homes - 2 occupied - all designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright – making Maple Heights one ofAmerica's most recent "high rise" towns!
