Maple Heights is a small town located in the Ottawa County, Ohio area. The population was 2,617 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,711. Maple Heights is one of five townships in Ottawa County. It borders Clearwater Township to the north, Lawrence Township to the east, and Summit Township to the south. The first settler in what is now Maple Heights was John Neely who arrived during 1810-1811. He named his land for his family's maple tree on their farm outside of town. In 1815 another settler by the name of Jukes moved into what is now Maple Heights from Hocking County and named it after himself - Jukes creek flowing through his land). In 1827 John Clough bought 640 acres (2 km²) near present day Maple Heights from Nicholas Biddle and settled there with his wife Mary and their six children; he also built a log cabin which still stands today as part of Maple Heights Historical Museum (now part of MAPLE HEIGHTS Civic Center). In 1830 three more families arrived including those from Wales and they renamed their land "Creek". This area became known as "Cloughsville" because that's where most of these families lived until 1840 when two more families moved in - Waguespack and Pogue - giving us our present day maple avenue address which begins atCROCKETT ROAD/MAPLE AVENUE which leads you down CROCKETT ROAD intoMaple Heights! It wasn't until 1850 that we had our first post office established here with George Gilbert opening up shop on Main Street just northwest ofpresent day MAPLE HEIGHTS CITY Hall! That same year saw the construction of OUR LORD AND LOVERS CHURCH on Stone Road southwest cornerof CROCKETT ROAD/MAPLE AVENUE...the cornerstone for this beautiful church was laid on November 15th, 1850 by Rev. Drury! Reverend Drury would later become pastor atOur Lord & Love Church throughout much of central Ohio! The growth & development here couldn't have been possible without all those hardworking citizens who contribute monthly thru membership dues to THE PARK DISTRICT OF OTTAWA COUNTY et al...and don't forget about THAT COFFEE BREAKFAST DINNER PARTY every month too!! Anyone following this blog lately knows I'm a huge fanatical member & supporter OF MAPLE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CLUB!!! They do an amazing job annually raising money for local charities!!! Today, maple avenue runs right through your heart as it once did back when people coming here would stop alongmain street just westof present day MAPLEHEIGHTS City Hall to buy fresh produce or eggs from Mrs. Kappman's grocery store acrossfrom her home...or they would go downriver to Ziegfeld's Opera House if they wantedto see some theatrical performance that week! All these years later we've managed to keep things retainslip friendly with no high priced restaurants or nightlife like back then :( despite claims from some residents that they want such thinghere!), but we've made room for several excellent businesses including CANDY BARN (formerly Dandelion), TINA'S Chinese restaurant (formerly Goody Gooes), GREEK CYNIC BARN ( formerly Eastern MarketBar), PINSTRIPE CAFE (formerly Just For Cookies), MOUNTAIN VIEW GASPBERRY COFFEE HOUSE(former Turtle Creek Café) which opened UPON MAPLLEY AVE., ANNA CARRIERO'S Bakery(which closed last year but will be reopened soon under new ownership) and finallymaple heights city hall sincelast fall...all while keeping our historic buildings fully functional!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maple Heights was founded in 1792 by the Reverend John Day and his family. The township was named after a maple tree that stands near the community. The first settler, John Day, built a log cabin on the site of present-day Maple Heights in 1792. maple grove Presbyterian Church was built in 1814. In 1827, the Township voted to change its name to Maple Heights Township because of its location near Maple Grove Cemetery. The first schoolhouse in Maple Heights opened in 1829. The first teacher, David Thomas, taught students from 3rd grade through 8th grade. A second schoolhouse opened in 1851 and instruction continued until 1865 when it became an academy for girls. In 1870, two more schools were constructed: one for boys and one for girls. When World War I began, many residents enlisted and military service required their homes to be turned into barracks. With limited acreage available for development within Maple Heights Township, only 12 homes were built before 1920 when restrictions on building permits were placed upon township residents due to high population growth rates within the limits of their townships boundaries (see map). In 1920, Maple Heights Township merged with neighboring Clinton Township to form Clinton-Maple Grove Township which has since been renamed Middletown Township when it formed part of Middletown-Bedford Countyline Area School District #1 (Middlesex County). It wasn't until 1990 that new plans were submitted to take over control ofmaple grove Presbyterian Church from the Ministry Of Education which had been using it as a private chapel since 1978; this proposal led to protests from locals who felt that religious services should not happen at a public place like church while people attended other types of businesses or services nearby without disruption or inconvenience
