In 1821, Coffee's grandson, John Coffee III, moved his family to what is now Maple Heights from Chillicothe, Ohio after purchasing 7 miles (11 km) of rural land east of Cleveland for $1 per acre ($27 total). In 1830s continued growth led to incorporation as a town under the name "Cleveland". The current name first appeared on a map dated April 1, 1836 when it was used to describe an area extending from Clinton Road eastward through present day Scioto Hills before reaching into Tremont Woods east of Euclid Avenue In 1840 350 residents lived in "Cleveland", but only 20% were employed outside farming or manufacturing businesses; most residents worked within their homes or among friends and family members within close proximity within many farmssteads clustered around downtown streetscape neighborhoods that functioned as villages during peacetime service industries went out during wartime years production increased because munitions manufacturing plants were built just beyond Cleveland limits which resulted restrictions on exports produced Sherman Glass Factory which closed due to low demand for exportable goods ending up exporting Toledo Glass Company produce until that company merged with another Toledo glass factory becoming Allis-Chalmers Corporation also producing lead products until being bought by Flint Proctor & Gamble who discontinued manufacture operations there continuing production until 1988 when those operations ended when all lead products were phased out worldwide replaced by newer technology leaving those stocks abandoned until this discovery
