Maple Heights is a town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,046 at the 2010 census. Maple Heights is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Mentor metropolitan area. The village of Maple Heights is adjacent to the town. The history of Maple Heights dates back to 1828 when General James Knoebel and his family moved from Delaware to what is now Maple Heights after purchasing land there from the Wyandot people. In 1829, John Copley founded a gristmill on the west side of US 22 near present-day Clinton Avenue in maplewood Township. By 1830, nearly all of what is now Maple Heights had been born into farming families and developed primarily as agricultural villages with substantial woodlands around them for hunting and gathering purposes. A school was established in 1832 by Reverend Ebenezer Brownell with help from Presbyterian missionaries under guidance of Dr. David Finney; it operated until 1836 when it closed due to financial difficulties caused by Indians raiding farms in that region during the Shawnee War (1835-1836). In 1840, two brothers – George Witherspoon and Daniel Sickles – bought 640 acres (248 hectares) east of downtown Cleveland from John Dixson for $1 per acre ($/km²). They formed the first township in Columbiana County: Witherspoon Township on November 3, 1840. Daniel Sickles later served as Mayor of Cleveland (1853-1857). Their purchase included a sawmill they started on West Side Hill which continued operating until 1862; their mill buildings are still standing today within blocks of one another on Euclid Avenue north of campus at 216th Street west of Lakeshore Boulevard. Upon realization that they couldn’t operate their sawmill indefinitely due to competition coming from larger mills located southward along I-675 Plainfield Road they sold it to J S Stevens & Sons lumber company in 1865 for $10 per acre ($/km²). Two years later another brother, George Hetherington sickled out 640 acres (248 hectares) immediately east across Mockingbird Creek from his brother Daniel Sickles also forming Hetherington Township on October 12th 1865 with boundaries similar to those given to Witherspoon and Sickles but without any Sawmills within its limits! Today these boundaries remain unchanged - Hetherington forms an enclave within Maple Heights proper just off North Shore Drive next door to IKEA! The townships were consolidated into Columbiana County on January 1st 1870 following a vote by residents thereof! The first post office opened at Maple Heights on December 10th 1846 mail being sent via stagecoach service between Akron and Columbus daily! One hundred homes were built here including 27 brick ones between 1850-1952 inclusive! Residents here enjoyed some pretty nice things like free disarmament at local wars thanks to military veterans living here who took oaths not to use firearms while serving!! Of particular note are three large water tanks dating back over 100 years each which can be seen parked outside most businesses along Euclid Ave NW right next door where US 421 meets MLK Blvd!!! At this time streetcar lines ran through town stopping just short inside yards before continuing east onto Euclid Ave then south onto NK deepwyerk Rd making stops just inside Greenwood Lake which formed its eastern border Thanks againitizens for 80+ years uninterrupted service no matter what happened 😊

Maple Heights is a town in Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton metropolitan area. The name Maple Heights comes from the maple tree which stands near the town's center and its many other trees give it an autumnal feel. The first settler in what is now Maple Heights was John Dowsett who arrived in 1798. Dowsett named his new community after his family's home country of Maple Leaf Township, Ontario, Canada. The first store in Maple Heights opened in 1813 and was run by Ebenezer Goode and his son Amos Goode. A millinery shop operated until 1834 when it became the first post office in Montgomery County and remained that way until 1917 when it became part of Dayton. In 1868, Josiah Nourse bought land north of town on High Street for $1,000 to build a gristmill which he named Nourse Corn Mill which continued to be a prominent figure in the community until 1951. The mill also produced paper products such as hats and overalls for local merchants until it closed down around 1970 due to lack of demand among residents for those products anymore. The only store left standing from that time is Mrs.'s Store which still sells groceries today inside their original building on Gadsden Ave., just west of Woodward Ave./Route 61 intersection; this business operated from about 1906-1967 under several different names including "Mrs.'s Drugstore" (1906-1907), "Gadget House" (1907-1945), "Mrs.'s Hardware" (1945-1967), "Homespun Mall" (1967-present). Maple Heights was first settled in 1795. The area that is now Maple Heights was part of the Northwest Territory, and it was named for the maple trees that were found there. In 1802, the United States acquired the Northwest Territory, and Maple Heights became part of the new country. The population of Maple Heights grew rapidly after its incorporation into America, and by 1835 it had reached over 1,000 people. The town's growth stagnated during the 1830s and 1840s because there were no major industries in what became known as “the backwoods” of Ohio. However, when a railroad came to town in 1851, job opportunities quickly arose for residents in the burgeoning metropolis. The town's fortunes began to change when manufacturers moved into the area and started production at local mills. This added demand for goods produced by Maple Heights residents, which led to increased economic prosperity throughout much of the 19th century.
