Mansfield is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mansfield-Warren-Marion Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1814, John Mansfield founded Mansfield Township, which became part of Warren County in 1821. In 1827, the township became part of Mahoning County and was renamed to Mansfield after John's father, Daniel Mansfield. The town was laid out by John and his brother Benjamin on May 12, 1800, and it had a population of fifty people when it was created. By 1810, however, the population had increased to one hundred people and by 1830 it had reached two hundred people. The first school in Mansfield opened in October of 1800 with fifteen students from Euclid Township who attended for one term then left for other schools in Ohio until they were recalled by their teacher on November 10th due to lack enrollment at their new school location (now known as Third Street). A second school opened on December 6th by order of Treasurer Josephine Ziegler who also served as Superintendent during this time period – this school continued using what is now Fifth Avenue South until February 1st 1801 when Mrs Ziegler relocated her children to Mentor because that is where she felt they would have more opportunities for education than if they lived in Euclid Township which at that time still included portions of Mahoning County including Mansfield Township. On July 2nd 1830 (the date that large portion or all of Mahoning County merged into Pennsylvania) John Denton sold 4 acres (18 acres) north eastof present day Second Street corner with Old Clinton Road to Abraham Myers for $2 per acre ($2400 today). This land would become known as "Denton's Hill". On October 9th 1830 Abraham Myers donated an additional piece or parcel totaling 5 rods (about 20 feet x 20 feet = 60 square feet) located south eastof present day Third Street corner with Old Clinton Road to John Denton for $4 per rod ($4800 today). This section now forms what areknown as Elmwood Drive & Elmwood Place neighborhoods northeastof downtown Manston while much older sections still form North Main Street & West Side Drive within what are currently called East Main & West Side drives within the core city limits since these streets were laid out prior to incorporation/renaming years ago! John Denton died suddenly on January 25th 1830 leaving behind his wife Sarah; four children: Daniel Jr., Benjamin Sr., Rachelle M., Esther Denton; three stepchildren: Jameson Landon Jr., Myles Swayne and Lucy Jane Gossett all born between 1796-1800; four grandchildren: Nancy Patterson Fournier born 1800-1802 Timothy Patterson born 1804-1806 Anna Patterson born 1808-1810 . Sarah married George Haines later that year but moved back home after several months living near Lancaster due to his death from a fever contracted while serving in Yorktown during the American Revolution ↑↑↓ ↑↑ John Denton purchased land northeast off Elmwood Drive & Elmwood Place from Abram Myers on July 2nd 1830 @ $2/acre (£2400/$6000 Today) - becoming owner thereof forever ↑↑↓ ↑↑
