He named it for General Joshua Mansfield, who had fought against Native Americans at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1800. Chambers also donated land to build schools and churches in the area. In 1835-36, John Dickey set up a sawmill here which became one of Ohio's largest employers during the early 19th century. Dickey also founded the local paper mill which continues to be an important part of life today; it manufactured newspapers until 1974 when it closed down due to competition from Oak Ridge National Laboratory tabloid paper mills across America. In 1840s and 1850s development occurred around two large canal projects - One created a water supply for nearby Cincinnati while another linked Cincinnati with Cleveland via Canals 1 & 2. Canal construction stoppedadee along with production but left behind massive amounts of engineering blueprints & plans which continue to influence modern day infrastructure design
