In 1831, David Prentice organized an agricultural society which changed its name to The First National Bank of Mansfield in honor of President Andrew Johnson’s inauguration as United States president that year. The bank continued operations until it merged with The Cincinnati Commercial Company in 1907. In 1902, Mansfield became part of Fayette Township when it was organized from parts of Defiance Township and Lebanon Township. In 1914, Fayette Township split into three separate townships: Athens Heights (to the north), Clinton Heights (to the east), and Mansfield (to the south). The township seat moved from Athens Heights to MansFIELD twice during its history- first between 1908-1910 when it was moved fromdefiance square to an all brick building at 9 Front Street after being damaged by fire; then again between 1916-1920 when it sat at 116 W Main until finally moving back to Athens Heights following World War I before returning back to mansFIELD permanently later that decade On February 15th 1922 as part of largeruan local government reorganization within Holmes County due largely to central bankers consolidation efforts such as those conducted by Federal Reserve Board Chairman James Gilded plastering over newly created rural banks throughout Holmes County effective immediately following stock market crash caused by new US banking regulations which included limiting leverage for banks - Athens Heights became Defiance while Clinton Heights became Lebanon - making MANSFIELD THE FIRST COMMUNITY TO BE TRANSITIONED FROM A RURAL TO A CIVIL POWER PLANTATION

Fremont as part of the National Road system which linked Cincinnati and Cleveland. It became an independent municipality in 1907. It was made a metropolitan area in 2000 and its name was changed to Mansfield-Ashland County on March 14, 2018.
