Mansfield is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Mansfield County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 61,569. Mansfield is known as "The Gun City" because of its gun manufacturing and trade heritage dating back to 1836. The city's nickname probably comes from its many rifle ranges which were used for hunting, target shooting and other sports. Mansfield was first settled in 1796 by George Washington Carver and his family. A Arsenal opened in 1836 in what is now Mansfield Center, providing employment for many local residents including John Lennon's father Liverpool Carver. In 1868, Merchants Bank moved into what is now downtown Mansfield from Xenia before becoming one of America's leading commercial banks with branches throughout Ohio and beyond until it merged with JB Penney in 1984. In 1870, an insurance company named Hartford Insurancies moved into what is now Park Place Shopping Center on Market Street adjacent to Whetstone Furniture Company founded by Nathan Hale Oakley (1824-1901) who also ran one of Mansfield’s largest stores at that time; The Oasis Room on Main Street opposite High School then continued operation out of that building until 1957 when it closed due to fire In 1907, John Giannini (1865-1945), founder and CEO of Cincinnati based IHI Inc., whose company manufactured tanks and artillery pieces during World War I renamed his company American Ordnance Industries after being acquired by Dow Corning Corporation in 1919 became president & CEO first at GMP Research Laboratories then again at AII where he served until his death on November 5th 1945 aged 83 years old Heavily reliant upon importation for their products until WWII when production increased within United States began domestically using surplus war equipment available from both allies and Axis countries AII played a significant role in helping develop various firearms fielded during World War II such as the M2 carbine which saw service implement through all three services including dropshot grenade launcher use against Japanese positions

Mansfield was founded by English colonists in 1785 as a small town on the Scioto River. The city grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its strategic location near major transportation routes and its attractiveness for manufacturing and business development. In 1925, Mansfield became one of two cities in Ohio to be incorporated as an independent municipality; it remains an unincorporated village today. A number of prominent people from Mansfield have served in public office, including Governor Oliver W. Morton (1932–35), Mayor John Daley (2002–2008), and Congressman Tim Ryan (2011–present). The history of Mansfield begins with English colonists who arrived there in 1785 as part of a group known as "The First Fleet." These settlers were interested in establishing a new colony on what is now called the Scioto River because they felt that this area had potential for growth due to its natural resources and its proximity to important transportation routes. The first settler, Joseph Sumner, built his home on what is now Newton Avenue just east of downtown Mansfield while others erected homes around what is now Market Street and State Road 524. By 1800, many residents had moved into downtown MansFIELD where they enjoyed easy access to goods available at markets located nearby or through wagon trains travelling down the Scioto River each day! In 1802, when General James Ketchum decided that he needed more troops stationed in eastern Ohio due to reports indicating that Indian forces were active along both sides of the river – specifically within range of his military posts – he Orderly Captain George Stephenson transferred all soldiers from Fort Washington between May 10th and 16th 1802 which included 200 men under Captain Stephenson’s command! This event marked not only Columbus’s first successful foray into eastern time but also demonstrated Ketchum’s confidence that he could manage affairs here without assistance from Philadelphia! During this period there were several attempts by businessmen living near Cincinnati to establish themselves as centres for commerce northward along Interstate 95; however none succeeded until 1821 when Daniel Henshaw organized “The Cincinnati Mother Lode Mine & Copper Mining Company” which successfully mined copper veins some 21 miles northwest of present day Cincinnati! The success of this venture led other capitalists soon followed suit including James Fenton who organized “Fenton Manufacturing Company” on July 1st 1825 which operated out west producing munitions during World War I! It wasn't until 1830 when Jotham Stevenson founded Stevenson Iron Works which would become one of America's largest manufacturers Of cast iron products!! Although we may never know for sure why Stevenson chose to locate his works close to Toledo rather than further away but it must have been advantageous because Toledo became America's leading center for steel production starting with their production begining August 15th 1830!!! What started out as an agricultural community has turned into oneof Americas most vibrant industrial communities…………………..

Mansfield is a town in Grant County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Mansfield was founded in 1788 as part of the Northwest Territory. The current town site was laid out in 1837 and named for General James K. Mansfield, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War. In 1897, it became a borough. On November 3, 2013, Mansfield received city status from Warren County.[1] The first Europeans to visit what is now Mansfield were Captain George Rogers Clark's group of three men on October 9, 1778 when they stopped at the confluence of the Scioto and Licking Rivers while travelling downriver from Fort Pitt.[2] They had been sent by General Washington to explore all of Ohio Proper before finally moving on to build a military camp near present-day Cincinnati. In 1803, John Quincy Adams created Grant County from parts of Wayne and Columbiana counties after settlers had driven out Native Americans living there. The county seat was located at Portsmouth until 1862 when it moved to Mansfield due to its strategic location on both sides of the Scioto River between Dayton and Columbus (the two largest cities in that area). At this time Grant County contained almost half of Ohio's population with 4 ranger posts set up throughout its territory including one at Portsmouth which served as headquarters for all Ranger Districts except for those established within Summit Township within Ross Township north of Fairview Cemetery and eastward into Delaware Township which formed part of Summit Township proper until 1892 when it became extinct as a township because most residents left for larger townships such as Mason City or Springfield during that period. Grant County also included much land lying east and south of Dayton along the way to Cincinnati but this piecemeal approach led to few settlements being made inside what is now Grant County other than Portsmouth where Clinchy Post Office opened on July 11th 1836[3] serving portions mostly within Ross Township eastward into Delaware then again westward into Fairview Cemetery before closing shop February 1st 1840[4]. Thisenterprise marked not only an early attempt by mailmen service providers outside Dayton but also introduced horse carriages carrying mail over rough country Roads through thinly populated areas becoming common practice some 35 years later with Pony Express services running similar routes connecting small communities headlong into Indian Territory resulting in many treaties being negotiated between US officials representing Native nations and local leaders ending warfare often leaving behind vast herds grazing on unclaimed acres ditto surveying large tracts home built without prior knowledge or compensation sometimes yielding huge annual profits providing valuable information about these new arrivals leading directly away successful fur trading operations among them days later another post office would open up Gilbert PO Box 590 Highland Springs MO 65611 serving Knoxville TN until May 1865 when headquarters moved back inside Dayton limits following cessation hostilities with Mexico resulting in Proclamation No 10 AUG 1870 declaring all US Territories Off Limitsiri'ding That Point All Persons Who transacted Business therein shall be Considered Enemies & Strangers & Be Subject To Any Law Which From That Time Forth may be prescribed by Us

Mansfield was founded in 1795 by John Mansfield, a surveyor and political exile from England who had come to America to become a land speculator. The town was named for Mansfield's older brother, Job, and it grew rapidly as a result of its location on the main road between Cleveland and Cincinnati. In 1814, Mansfield became the capital of Ohio after being chosen from among five finalists by the General Assembly. The city hosted the state's first public school in 1819, and it became an important center for trade and commerce in central Ohio. By 1830, Mansfield had reached its peak as an agricultural center with prosperous farmsteads that produced crops such as wheat, corn, barley, apples, potatoes, and other vegetables. However, economic competition from nearby cities led to someresses abandoning mansfields for larger holdings elsewhere in the state. By 1860, Mansfield was hit hard by Civil War casualties and social changes that created new opportunities for Farmsville instead. After Union troops burned down many of the town's buildings during the war (a practice known as " burnNotable," which helped boost local businesses), Mansfield regained some of its former prominence as a commercial center before gradually declining throughout the late 19th century. In recent years it has seen modest growth due to population loss associated with various factors including suburban development near Interstate 70
