The current post office building was built in 1984 and contains a branch library. The community has two high schools: Mount Pleasant High School and Altoona Senior High School. There are also three elementary schools: Crestwood Elementary School (grades K-5), John Glenn Elementary School (grades 6-8), and Elmira Elementary School (grades pre-kindergarten through 5th grade). There are also several businesses including one grocery store and one convenience store as well as several churches including Baptist/ Methodist/ Lutheran services as well as an ice cream parlor, bowling alley, among other businesses. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land.

Mansfield, Ohio is a small town located in theuyork County area of north central Ohio. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Mansfield was founded in 1810 by John Mansfield and his wife Rebecca Noble Mansfield. The first home in town was built on the current site of the Community College of Lorain County. A post office called Mansfield was established in 1812, and remained open until 1893. In 1815, John Mansfield married Sarah Goodrich, daughter of Simon Goodrich and Lydia (Lydia) Childs. They had three children: John (1816-1892), Sarah Ann (1817-1900), and Rebecca Anna (1819-1905). In 1820, they bought 137 acres near present day Mahoning Valley Airport for $3200 from David Dennison. This land would later become known as "The Farm". John Mansfield died in 1892 at the age of 80 years after a long battle with Bright's disease which caused kidney damage from overuse as a farmer and contractor during his lifetime. He is buried at Arlington Heights Cemetery in Illinois along with his wife Sarah Ann, their son John Jr., and two daughters Rebecca Anna and Sara Goodrich: one sister to each father's death bed! On July 3rd 1978 Senator George Voinovich attended service at his graveside with Mrs. Voinovich who shared that her brother had been elected President 36 years earlier when he lived just down the street! Mansfield was founded in 1792 by librarian and abolitionist John C. Mansfield. The town is located in the Ohio River Valley, about 20 miles south of Cincinnati. Mansfield became a county seat in 1836 and continued to serve as such until 1907.
