Macedonia, Ohio is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Macedonia was founded in 1821 by John Macedonia and his brother James Macedo and named for the ancient kingdom of Macedon. Macedonia is located in the eastern edge of Trumbull County on State Route 6 east of Akron. The town plat was filed on December 12, 1821. The first settler to arrive in Macedonia was John Macedonia who arrived with his family from Greece on November 4, 1820. They were among the earliest European settlers in what would become Trumbull County. John's nephew George Macedonia also arrived later that year and erected a log cabin near present day Macedonian Schoolhouse Road northeast of village center. The Village of Macedonia was organized on February 2, 1824 by vote of the residents under an act passed by the General Assembly concurrent with that date providing for organization of villages within counties when they were created pursuant to an act entitled "An Act concerning Indian Affairs." The Village had five trustees who were elected interchangeably every two years and held office until their removal or resignation by order of the Township Council which then directed them to meet at some other locality within their respective townships for that purpose or until their successors were duly appointed by order oi tlie Township Council subject only to impeachment proceeding as provided for in section 9 pf said township code but no such impeachment proceedings having ever been instituted against any township trustee since its adoption it can be safely asserted that all actions taken by members thereof were without motive except purely local considerations arising out cf their own individual interest as trustees rather than from official duty required thereby." On July 3rd 1870 (the date after Ohio became a state) Cameron Pugh became oneoftheTrusteesofMacedoniaVillageandtookofficeonthatdatewithaMemorandumfromtheMayorofAkron stating"ThatHeHasBeenAppointedTribalJudgeForTheTownshipOfMacedaniaAndWill PerformAllOfficialDuties requisite thereto." As Trustee he resided at 318 Main Street where he continued to serve until his death on October 15th 1944 aged 86 years which left behind him four children--Donald J., Maynard L., Ellen F., Nettie M.--all residing today inTrumbullCountyOhioalongwithseveralfamilymembersstill residinginMacedonia during World War II when itwasoccupiedbyGermany.(See map attached.) Donald Jr.'s wife Katheryn died suddenly while shepherding her six kids across country after being liberated from concentration camp during 1945.(See map attached.) All those living today are descended from Mr. Pugh's descendants: Donald J., Maynard L., Ellen F., Nettie M.--all living inside Trumbull County; daughters Katheryn S., Barbara S.; sons Dayton T., Dayton D.; grandchildren Clinton C./Clinton H./Clinton I.: roman catholic church services are usually held there once a week plus mass three times per month
