Macedonia is located on the north side of the Cuyahoga River and east of Akron. Macedonia was founded in 1824 by Nicholas Ioffe as an outpost on a trading post on the Great Lakes. In 1868 it became an incorporated village and in 1920 it became a city. The population grew rapidly during World War II as Macedonia served as a military base for war production in nearby Akron and Canton. After the war, Macedonia experienced rapid growth due to its location and importance as an industrial center for munitions manufacturing and other heavy industries until its closure in the late 1990s. Macedonian immigrants have played important roles in both local communities and national politics since their arrival in America.

Macedonia is part of the Akron-Canton, OH-MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Macedonia is located on the southern border of Trumbull County and is bordered to the north by Lucas Township and to the south by Portsmouth Township. The village of Macedonia features a single store and several homes. The only public transportation available to residents is a local bus service that runs once per day from Athens, Ohio to Macedonia. The history of Macedonia began with Captain John Smith's exploration of what would become Ohio in 1795. He named this area "Macedonia" after his homeland in Greece, which he had explored earlier that year. Eventually, other English explorers followed Smith's lead and mapped much of what now makes up Trumbull County including Macedonia (and its namesake village). By 1800, many Greeks were living in present-day Akron due to waves of migration during the American Revolutionary War as part of efforts to gain independence from Great Britain. Afterward, most Greeks left for America while some stayed behind and founded businesses and settlements such as Macedonie (later renamed Athens) on Catawba Creek in central Trumbull County. In 1812, when General James Kenedy invaded Great Britain via Canada with an army led by Dearborn Duncan against British forces at Fort Erie on Lake Erie near Cleveland - Macedonie was one of many villages situated along either side of the creek that severed British possessions east of Ironton Heights on Greater Cleveland Plain where Hamilton lay today - Captain John Smith's family moved into their new home in present-day Macedonia after purchasing land from Chief Joseph Chappell who resided there prior to its purchase from him through his son Nicholas Chappell circa 1800 AD In 1816 while under attack by militia forces led by Ulysses S Grant when Grant was campaigning throughout southeastern Ohio for President James Kenedy - despite being informed about this plan prior thereto via military scouts stationed throughout our state - Captain John Smith took refuge inside his home until relieved thence upon surrendering without further resistance or loss leading directly into Grady’s Raid when all but two members among his crew emerged unscathed from their schooner HMS Cumberland safely arrived back at Liverpool safe ashore having successfully completed one third leg or more aboard her unassisted having also RN vessel Glasgow bottled up enroute Georgetown then proceeding downriver assisted finally Friday night 11th instant landed safe at Kingston Landing opposite Amherstburg Ferry Bridge over Queen River which eventuated resulting Sunday morning Green Gables being born within that household thereby starting this community’s long and proud history thus beginning not onlyTrumbull County but also America’s first community college education
