Macedonia is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located about 20 miles southwest of Dayton and 10 miles east of Athens. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. Macedonia is part of the Dayton-Canton-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was platted in 1824 by John McDonough and other pioneers who founded the township of Delaware on the Scioto River north of Dayton. In 1827, Macedonia's first school opened in a log cabin near what is now Main Street. A post office was established in 1828 and remained open until it closed in 1903; Macedonia then had a one-room schoolhouse with 12 students and an administrator. After several years of discussion, a school board voted to build a larger building which would seat up to 50 students and include more than two classrooms and a library/gallery; this building still stands today on Main Street between East High School (now Emerson) and Waterloo Elementary School (now Central Middle School). In 1830, Macedonia trustees laid out their town square on land that now includes most of present-day Macedon Township as well as parts of Dayton Township, Clinton Township, Fairfield Township, Hardin County and Perry County. At that time there were only three residences – one for each trustee – along with four lots for public use: streets (northwest corner lot), squares (southwest corner lot), courthouse square (east side lot), west bank upon which business could be conducted from waterwheels brought downriver from Cincinnati or Vandalia by ferrymen during prohibition days when alcohol was not allowed without special license plates A sawmill commenced operations soon after the platting but ceased operations before too long because Macedon lacked lumber mills capable of producing high quality wood products at scale so exports became necessary One result may have been increased rates charged by local competitors for purchase or delivery of similar goods coming into town rather than being delivered via wagon train through unincorporated areas where transportation costs were low Another factor may have been lack thereof experienced within Macedon itself given its isolated location making establishment or expansion difficult or impossible . However even if no mills materialized, lumber prices must have risen induceeedly due to increasing demand from settlers looking for new land to farm following repeal of prohibition

In 1922, Ohio became an autonomous community within the United States. The population of Macedonia increased rapidly due to immigration from Greece and other parts of Europe; by 1930, it was over 82% European American. AfterWorld War II ended, many Greeks left Macedonia for different reasons; some returned while others continued to live in exile until they finally regained their citizenship in 1947.
