Lyndhurst is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,689 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown metropolitan area. Lyndhurst was founded in 1824 by Joshua Haggerty and his family. The first store in Lyndhurst was built on High Street and operated by Haggerty and his brother-in-law Ephraim Butler. In 1836, the first school in Lyndhurst was opened by Mrs. Elizabeth Atherton and taught Kindergarten to grade six students. In 1865, the first church in Lyndhurst was established with Rev. Joses Blythe as its pastor. The population of Lyndhurst peaked at 2,500 in 1895 but declined after World War I; it has since increased modestly over the years to 1,689 residents today. The town formed a township on February 14th, 1825 from parts of Scioto Township (now Mentor). On February 14th 1870, it became a borough when it annexed part of Dayton Township (now Sylvania Heights). In 1907 it became a village when it annexed most of Defiance Township (now Delaware Heights). On December 30th 1912 – just one day before its centennial – Lyndhurst merged with Defiance into one municipality under then-mayor Captains John Prentice and George Treadway Jr.. This merger allowed for more direct representation for villagers at township meetings which ended their power to control Village Affairs through referendum or petitioning process used since prior to that time by councillors appointed by mayors only On April 15th 2014 voters approved an amendment to the Borough Charter giving them even more direct democracy within the municipality specifically addressing issues like taxation and zoning while also increasing their ability to levy taxes without unanimous consent from all council members Lyndhurst is located at .
