Lyndhurst is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Canton–Middletown (D3) micropolitan area. Lyndhurst is located on the southern edge of metropolitan Dayton and is north of Columbus. The original Lyndhurst was founded in 1806 by General James Henry Clinton and his family as a stop on the Underground Railroad. The town was named for General John AnthonyLyndley who commanded British forces during the War for Independence. In 1830, Lyndhurst became one of seven towns in Hamilton County created from portions of Scioto Township east of Dublin Road. In 1836, Lyndhurst had a schoolhouse and two stores; it had also three farms with 1 to 5 enslaved African Americans working them. In 1840, it had four stores and five families; it also had six slaves working on three farmssteads. In 1847, when Hamilton County was divided into two parts, Lyndhurst lost its status as part of Scioto Township but kept its name because it lay within that part's portion annexed by Dayton in 1851 after Scioto Township refused to give up its land titles to Dayton without first receiving compensation from Lyndhurstites themselves. The annexation event caused much scorn among many Lyndhurstians because their village – which only boasted one store – outearned Dayton's five-time larger city by more than $5 per capita at the time (($136 in current dollars).) In 1861-1862 there were three lynchings in Ohio: one near Springfield (near modern day Cincinnati), another near Lebanon (an unincorporated community), and finally Oneonta (now Monroeville), Indiana after an altercation between white men over an Indian girl.) All three Lynches took place within what are now Montgomery County OH., well outside any township boundaries then or now! Lyndshawe also became known for producing some world famous cigars such as Romeo y Julieta which started being made here back in 1905 until they were moved to Honduras starting production there again about 1990s while still being produced here under different names including Partagas Finaust cigars since 1915 until they stopped production around 2009 due to economic reasons .) Lyndhurst was founded in 1815 by Nicholas Lyndhurst. The town was named for Nicholas Lyndhurst, an American Revolutionary War soldier and member of the Board of Education for Cincinnati. The first settlers arrived in 1816, and within a year had erected a small log cabin. By 1830, the population had increased to 10 residents, and within two years they had built a more recent log cabin on the current site of the city hall. In 1835, they completed construction of their first school building which served as their primary center of learning until it burned down in 1853. They also built a sawmill in 1840, but this too failed to remain profitable and was sold in 1850. In 1861, the town became part of the new state of Ohio and its status changed from agricultural community to municipal city. The following year saw the completion of their second school building which replaced what had been their only structure at that time. Lyndhurst experienced several decades during which few major changes occurred other than gradual growth into its present form as a municipality with a population over 50K today.
