Lyndhurst is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census. Lyndhurst is located on the Scioto River, a tributary of the Maumee River. Lyndhurst was founded by Captain John Hennessey in 1789 as a small community on Holmes Creek adjacent to present day Lyndhurst Township on the Scioto River. The first post office opened in Lyndhurst on October 25th, 1837. A train stop known as "The Lighthouse" served Lyndhurst until 1915 when it became an auto dealership complex known as "The Stripes". In 1905 a new steel plant was built in Lyndhurst which led to heavy job growth for decades until it closed in 2001 due to competition from Asia and other nations with more advanced technology. After years of decline many businesses relapsed or ceased operations altogether within several years but sporadic efforts have kept some local companies afloat such as The Paper Mill which reopened in 2009 after being inactive for over two decades Most notably during this time period many factories were/are still open such as Steel Works (now part of United Metals), Rubber Plantation (now US Bancorp) and Cannery (now Jardine & Matheson). This resurgence can be credited largely to Mayor Dennis Brainerd who championed economic development initiatives throughout his career while also working closely with business owners and laborers unions After years of decline most businesses relapsed or ceased operations altogether within several years but sporadic efforts have kept some local companies afloat such as The Paper Mill which reopened in 2009 after being inactive for over two decades; however much larger plants like Steelworks have failed multiple times since then due mainly to global competition although there are signs that things may be changing with United Metals' recent investment into their steel division . In 1914, American Arms Corporation merged with Mannlicher & Co., making Novak Mannlicher & Co., Incorporated one of America's largest firearms companies. In 1917, company officials decided to produce an autoloading pistol designed by Adolpho Guarneri which would be known as the Browning Automatic Pistol (BAP). This design was ultimately adopted as the Browning Automatic Pistol (BAP) series designation in 1918. The BAP became an extremely popular handgun and saw continued production until it was replaced by modern firearms designs such as Glock and Beretta over 25 years later.

After World War II, Lyndhurst experienced rapid growth thanks to the arrival of new businesses such as Ford Motor Company and Wernher von Braun's rocket company which relocated from West Germany to establish their operations here. Over the years much has changed about Lyndhurst including its economy, demographics, architecture, infrastructure and community spirit which can be seen through various local events that are held each year such as the Fourth of July Parade or Homecoming Weekend which celebrates local traditions like agriculture and fishing among others
