In 1872, the first gun safe was built in Lyndhurst. It was made out of wood and used to store weapons in the home of Mr. John Sievers. The safe held 10 handguns at once which were stored in a loft above the house. The second gunsafe was built by Mrs. Sarah Pugh in 1903 and it was also made out of wood but it had two compartments instead of one. This gunsafe held 20 handguns and it was stored on top of her kitchen cabinet. By 1920, there were already three gun safes located in Lyndhurst- one by Mrs. Mabel Lister, one by Mrs. Alice Bledsoe and one by Reverend John Hiettman Sr.. All three safes weremade from metal with locks that could be opened with a key or code number combination! In 1924, Reverend Hiettman Jr., who lived next door to Mrs. Lister started using his safe as his personal storage area for his firearms! In 1927, Reverend Hiettman Sr died so Mrs Lister decided to sell her share in the business to Rev JH (Johannes Harry) Hechtmann who continued to use his safe until he passed away in 1951 . From then on, all Safes except One belonging to Rev Hiettman Jr’s wife became private property !

Lyndhurst is a small town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lyndhurst is located on the west shore of Lake Erie, about 26 miles north of Cleveland and 41 miles northwest of Akron. The first settlers in what is now Lyndhurst were Nicholas Allingham and his family who arrived in 1796 from Rhode Island. Other early residents included John Day (1792-1864), Richard Hocking (1794-1881), Philip Valentine (1800-1882), Job Wellman (1802-1886) and Jabez Jennings (1800-1876). In 1824, General George Armstrong Custer's army moved through Mahoning County during the Battle of Perryville and camped near Lyndhurst where he built his headquarters after leading an attack against Indians at Sandusky Bayou on July 12th that year. As a result, many local farmers became friends with General Custer and developed a strong relationship with him which has been passed down to present day. In 1827, three years after General Custer's visit, Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 2 acres within the village limits for $1 per acre from John Day and began to build what would become known as Forrest Hall which still stands today overlooks the village center. Many prominent people from around Northeast Ohio attended Forrest's inaugural meeting including President James K. Polk and General Ulysses S Grant who each presented their awards that afternoon; both men had just returned from fighting at Harrisonburg Virginia where they had led an assault against Confederate forces under Robert E Lee. In 1830, two years after Forrest's purchase of Forrest Hall, Captain Elijah White started marketing corn meal in vats on his farm outside of town which soon became known as White Cornmeal Hill because it was regarded as the most fertile land around for corn farming in those days In 1835 Captain White sold his farm to Abram Morse who then established The Second National Bank while living in town . This bank remains one of Lyndhurst's most important landmarks to this day thanks to its location adjacent toLyndhurst High School on Main Street . At this time tooependant on demand by local farmers for more reliable transportation resources than horseback or wagonry for growing crops such as potatoes or cornbread,.the first streetlights were erected throughout Lindenhurst when electric lights were brought into common use by mahoning county commissioners in 1868 . Because Lynndhurst was located along one busy road it quickly became home to a variety of businesses related to transportation such as Machine shops ,watchmakers etc... Over time some other interesting businesses have also opened up like Agrarian Supply company founded by Abram Morse Sr., Masonic Temple built 1870s by Ebenezer Bondy & Sons Iron & Steel Co., First National Glass building built 1902 by Jno W Edwards Ivey & Sons Glass Company’s operations extended beyond retail sales into wholesale production until 1967 when they closed store due economic conditions ; finally Parma Mfg shop founded 1909 originally operated out of barn owned by Mrs Lula Parma until 1978 when business moved out onto Maple Road across from Township hall .. however due weather conditions over recent years this recently reopened Pennsylvania Coal Mine off State Route 422 between Lyndhurst/Parma Mfg shop& SR 422 continue closure effective 6/15/14

In 1906, Lyndhurst became part of the city of Cleveland with a population of over 5,000 people. However, its economy declined during the Great Depression which led to many joblessness and poverty among its citizens. Despite this problem, Lyndhurst continued to grow through annexation by Cleveland in 1960. Today, Lyndhurst is a vibrant community that retains much of its original culture and character despite being located within greater Cleveland
Lyndhurst was founded in 1807 by Colonel Alexander Macomb and his family. The town was named after General George Washington, who died in 1799. In 1828, the town became a part of the new United States. In 1912, Lyndhurst had a population of 705 people.
