The townsite was enlarged in 1826 with additions from other settlements along the river such as Mentor and Defiance Springs. In 1837, a canal was completed which made it possible for farmers to export corn and other items from Lyndhurst into downtown Lima without having to go through Cardston or Medina. This helped increase trade within the community and contribute to its growth over time. In 1916, Lyndhurst became part of Athens Township when that township was erected out of parts of five villages: Cardston, Delaware, Mentor-on-the-Hudson (now Arlington Heights), Perrysburg (now Findlay), and West Fairfax (now Dublin). In 1978, Athens Township merged with Darke County to form Lucas County. Lyndhurst has had a Methodist church since 1825; it burned down in 1896 but was rebuilt near where it now stands using funding provided by John Davenport Sr., one of Ohio's leading Methodists during that period. A new Methodist church building opened in 2009 inside the old bank building across from Dell High School after years of planning and fundraising led by local natives Danica Kirka and her husband Rick Kirkaitidis “Rick” being among those instrumental in helping found Dell Christian Academy adjacent to where their childhood home once stood – giving Dell students access not onlyto an excellent school system but also an opportunity for them too play varsity lacrosse right alongside their classmates! Today’s Dell High School shares some similar features including a large indoor turf field with bleachers set around it as well as state-of-the-art technology like four highdefinition video screens – perfect for watching games during lunchtime!

Lyndhurst was founded in 1810 as an agricultural community on the southern edge of what is now Cleveland. The first store and post office were built in 1811 by John Fenton and his son Ezra Fenton. In 1812, Samuel Lyndhurst donated land to form a village; it became known as Lyndhurst after Samuel's brother Elijah Lyndhurst who had also donated land for the village. In 1830, George Washington Carver moved from Boston to purchase 640 acres (2 km2) of farmland along with $5 per acre ($1 million total) in start money for developing it into an agricultural center called Maple Leaf Gardens. The Carvers named their new village after their home state of Virginia – Lyndhurst was created on October 15th 1830 – making it one of only two U.S., or federally recognized villages that bear this distinction (the other being Waco Texas). In 1892, Aetna LIFE Insurance Company organized its first life insurance campaign in America using local agents and selling policies direct to consumers through door-to-door salesmen throughout Cleveland area businesses such as department stores and banks. This campaign helped Toombs Mortgage & Loan Corporation become America’s first mortgage company and continue operations until merged with Freddie Mac in 2007. Lyndhurst has grown rapidly over the past century due to its location close to major metropolitan areas like Cleveland and Akron while still maintaining its rural feel withoneworkers harvesting crops on their own property orchards or cultivating flowers on private gardens located within city limits
The Lyndhurst area was once a part of the Township of Lyndhurst in the now defunct Summit County. The township was organized on February 25, 1836 and named for General David Lyndhurst, who founded the village of Lyndhurst. In 1868, the township became a part of the newly created Defiance County when it was divided from Summit County. The county seat was moved to Defiance in 1876 and Lyndhurst remained its only town until 1984 when it merged into Defiance City.
