Gun cleaning history in Lyndhurst, Ohio began with the opening of the first gun shop in 1848. The shop was run by a man named John A. Fenton and his son-in-law, James Ransom. In 1861, Fenton sold his business to Amos Winchester and moved to Boston, Massachusetts. Winchester continued to operate the business until 1892 when it closed due to financial troubles. The business was reopened by Mr. and Mrs. Halsey Green in 1898 and continued operations until 1907 when it closed again due to lack of customers. In 1913, Mr. Green opened a second gun shop called the Western Gun Store which remained open until 1972 when it closed its doors for good due to changes in local law that banned handguns within city limits. The first guns that were cleaned here in Lyndhurst were pistols made by Smith & Wesson Company from 1847-1858 inclusive (now owned by Colt). The store also traded rifles and shotguns from this time onward until 1952 when all firearms were banned within Lyndhurst city limits (this law changed after World War II). In 1951, General Electric bought out Amos Winchester's share of the Western Gun Store and continues operation as today's GE Firearms Corporation located at 611 Elmwood Ave., Suite 4017 in Lyndhurst Township, Ohio 43735 (see map below). During the 1950s GE Firearms Corporation also produced an experimental revolver called "The Atomizer" which had a Thompson sub machinegun caliber barrel with an air compressor fed through a hose running into the barrel which created explosive force as you fired it; see photo below left courtesy of American Rifleman magazine dated September 1956 issue (#27) GE Firearms Corporation produced many different types of handguns including revolvers (Thompson submachineguns), semiautomatic pistols (Walther PPKs),and shotguns over their years of production however they are all now property of Colt Holdings Incorporated based out of North Adams MA 01810 . From 1954 through present day there has been only one exception - during 1957 they produced a new handgun known as the Railgun which is still manufactured today under license from Russian manufacturer Sbornik Gubakov . Although not currently beingproduced at GE Firearms Corporation any thoughts or plans are currently underway should such a project become feasible given current trends
