Lyndhurst, Ohio is home to the world’s second largest gun barrel factory. The company, Butler Arsenal Company, has been manufacturing barrels for firearms since 1851. The factory produces a wide variety of firearms barrels including pistols, shotguns, rifles and more. The history of the company can be traced back to 1851 when John Butler founded Butler Arsenal Company in Lyndhurst. At that time, guns were made primarily from bamboo and other materials. However, because of the popularity of guns in America, John Butler decided to start manufacturing firearms with barrel made from metal. He purchased an old furnace in 1853 and started production at his new business. During World War I, the company produced barrels for both American and British artillery. After the war ended, the business continued to grow until it became one of America’s top manufacturers of Firearms Barrels and Ammunition. In 1929, John Butler passed away and his son took over management of the company. Over time, John Butler Arsenal Company has become one of America’s most successful gun companies with a legacy that continues today.

In 1853, Lyndhurst was founded on the east side of the Monongahela River by John P. Herron and his family. The town quickly grew and soon had a post office, school, and Armory. In 1861, after Ohio became a state, Lyndhurst voted to become a city. In 1917, the United States Armed Forces moved Camp Grant from nearby Fort Knox to Lyndhurst after Pearl Harbor. The camp served as an artillery training ground for American troops during World War II until it was closed in 1945.
Lyndhurst is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,965 at the 2010 census. The name Lyndhurst was first given to the community by General George Washington during the French and Indian War. It was later used as an alternate spelling of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. In 1813, John Lynde bought land in what is now Lyndhurst and named it after himself. In 1818, he also founded the town of Chesterfield on his property in what is now southwest Butler County. mentor Trust Company had been formed there in 1820 by John Atherton and others who had come from Manchester Township, their home-town just east of Cleveland. The trustees were empowered to build a Court House and Jail (now the Historical Society Building), but they failed to do so because of lack of funds. In 1830, US Senator Andrew Johnson visited Lyndhurst and praised its merchants for helping him win the Mexican-American War against Mexico. Some local citizens donated money to purchase cannonballs for use in that campaign; these cannons are still standing today near Village Park in downtown Lyndhurst. Lyndhurst is a small town in northeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. Lyndhurst is east of Cincinnati on the west bank of the Scioto River. Lyndhurst's ZIP code is 45115. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lyndhurst were French traders and missionaries in 1701-02. A post office called "Lindhurst" was established in 1812, and remained in operation until 1906. It wasn't until after the American Civil War that people started arriving from Ohio to live hereabouts. The first white settler arrived in 1869 when John Wills made his land purchase near present day Parkersburg, West Virginia from James Dolan for $1,000 cash only. Wills built a log cabin and named it "Lyndhurst". He operated a grist mill and sawmill hereabouts before dying in 1875 at age 76 years old. His wife operated the mills until their death also in 1875. Their son, John Wills II (1848-1924), took over operations of the mills from his mother's death until her retirement in 1907; she had been an important factor influencing early development of this community as well as its growth over the years—-a fact which has not been generally recognized by local historians due to lack of documentary evidence or analysis thereof.–Ancestry Today article on JohnWills II
Lyndhurst was founded in 1796 by Captain John Lyndhurst, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town is named for John Lyndhurst, the first postmaster. The population of Lyndhurst increased from 350 in 1800 to 2,500 by 1815 and reached 10,000 in 1860. The first mills in Lyndhurst were started in the early 1800s by Captain John Lyndhurst and his son Charles. The mills became important sources of revenue for the town and helped to drive its growth. In 1826, a store and post office were built on Main Street. In 1857, the United States Post Office moved from Cincinnati toLyndhurst, becoming one of the first post offices in Ohio. That same year saw the opening of a school on Front Street which became an important educational center for the town until it closed in 1925. In 1924, two hotels were built within walking distance of each other on Main Street; both remain extant today as unrecognized historic landmarks. The Lindhurst Turnpike was constructed through Lyndhurst between 1915 and 1918 and added much-needed traffic relief to the town during World War I.
