The history of Loveland began with fur traders who came to Lake Erie in search for trade goods with Native Americans during the early 1800s. By 1805, there were over twenty fur trading posts along present day Lake Erie as traders hunted various Native American populations for furs they could purchase or barter for other goods like corn or tobacco that they needed to survive on their journey westward. When Captain John Stevens reached lake Erie in 1807 he discovered an undiscovered river that led him to believe he had found landmass much larger than what he had seen before on his explorations across North America since he sailed into Chesapeake Bay in 1609! He named this new discovery "Nanticoke" after one of his previous trading posts on the river - a place where many native people had gathered together because there was no other place accessible from their land (the Nanticoke River formed part of present day Delaware). On July 1st 1907 lots 4 & 5 Were Assigned To: Mr Geo A OBrien .On October 15th 1907 Ashtabula County Agreed To Purchase Lots Nos 4 7& 8 From Township Of New Lebanon To FORM Township OF NANTICOTE CITY ALSO THE ISLAND LOTS ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE REPORTS RIVER NOT INCLUDED IN THAT OR ANY OTHER LISTING AS THEY WERE SOLD TO NEW LEBANON COUNTY BY MR GEORGE ARTHUR OTTERMAN JR FOR $305 BELOW MARKET VALUE !!
