Lorain is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lorain County. The population was 66,553 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Maumee River, about 25 miles southwest of Cleveland and 20 miles northeast of Toledo. The first permanent settler in what is now Lorain Township was Nicholas Deane in 1796. In 1814, land east of present-day Lorain was acquired by Colonel John Stroud from the Muskingum tribe. The town site was laid out by George Armstrong Cram in 1827 as "Stroud's Grove". It became known as "Lorain" after General David Petraeus' headquarters were established there in late 2007 during his time as Commanding Officer of United States Central Command (USCENTCOM). In 1836, construction began on a grist mill on the Maumee River that would become one of Lorain's most important businesses. The gristmill still stands and is used for flour production today; it has been donated to the city and refurbished into an exhibition hall called Old Mill Livelihoods Museum. In 1853, L&N Railroad arrived in Lorain with its famous 472-mile (746 km) route between Cleveland and Toledo; it soon became one of Ohio's largest railroad companies. The company merged with Chicago Central Railway to formthe Chicago Great Western Railway in 1896, which moved its main line from Ironton to Lisbon Junction before becoming part of Pennsylvania Railroad in 1912. The area around Lorain grew rapidly during World War II due to manufacturing demand for munitions made here such as aircraft parts and shipbuilding products; post-war development included suburban housing developments near downtown along with several shopping malls built adjacent to Interstate 75/I-480 remake including One Michigan Center mall completed in 1990 while also creating more than 10 jobs per acre when compared to pre-war levels while also leading to increased traffic congestion caused by new highways being constructed nearby including I-75/I-480 merge south into I-680 just south of downtown that led directly to Claxton Road then west across Cook Road onto State Fairgrounds Rd where US Veterans Memorial Hospital now stands

Lorain, Ohio is a small town located in the southeast corner of Ohio. It is bordered by Butler County to the west, Medina County to the north, and Trumbull County to the east. The population was 9,816 at the 2010 census. Lorain has a history that goes back over two hundred years. The first settler in Lorain was James Gentry who arrived in 1814. Lorain was founded on June 2, 1825 by John Hutton and his family. In 1827, George Washington Reynolds settled here and started a millrace that still runs today. In 1830-32, Daniel Boone moved his family from Kentucky to this area and began farming Hereford cattle and wheat. He named the township after General George Washington Reynolds who had helped him during the American Revolution. As time passed more people arrived in Lorain including Germans (1845), Irish (1851), ItalianAmericans (1859), Poles (1917), Swedes (1920), Japanese Americans (1941-1945), Koreans (1979), and African Americans (1965). In 1915-16 there were five churches in Lorain with services being held every Sunday morning at nine o’clockam outside of the high school which later became church #2A which is still standing today on Elm Street next to Post Office Building No 1A which served as both public library for residents of Lorain until it closed in 2001 and now houses the Community Resource Center. On September 20th 1918 an election was held for trustees of LORAIN SCHOOL DISTRICT 5 where Fenton Jourdan won with 329 votes against incumbent Wm Siska’s 291 votes%. Voters then chose Driscoll Everson as superintendent of schools serving grades one through twelve with a term effective immediately following Mr Jourdan’s three year term ending November 30th 1922; Mrs Everson serving as vice Superintendent beginning January 1st 1923 until her death on December 31st 1927; Floyd Copley becoming acting superintendent effective February 14th 1928 until finally Wm Siska taking office effective March 3rd 1929 having been elected trustee on November 3rd 1924 succeeding Mrs Everson . During World War II LORAIN school district lost all its buildings save for Post Office building No 1A which also housed our library until it closed in 2001 when it reopened under new ownership as an art museum called “The Community Resource Center”

This company manufactured steel products throughout North America and helpedurbate Lorain's economy as well as giving it a strong presence on both national and international levels.In 1957, Lorain became an independent city with its own mayor and council; this change helped increase economic opportunities for residents while also bolstering city pride. Since then, there have been several expansions to the city's infrastructure including new streets, libraries, parks/residences/mall developments along with numerous cultural events held throughout different seasons.
