Lorain, Ohio is a small city located in the northwestern corner of Ohio. The population was 34,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lorain County and home to the Lorain Municipal Airport. The first settler in Lorain was George Bliss who arrived on July 6, 1814. He named his new community after himself and his brother-in-law, John Ziegler. The town quickly grew and by 1830 had a population of 1,000 people. In 1833, General Abraham Lincoln visited Lorain during his campaign for president and praised the town's progress since he last visited it two years earlier. In 1907, Lorain became one of only a few cities in Ohio to be annexed into the city of Cleveland. After annexation, much growth took place in Lorain with businesses opening up throughout downtown including a new movie theater which opened in 1912 called The Fox Theatre (later renamed The Quicken Loans Arena). This helped spur development along Wilson Avenue making it one of the most important commercial corridors in Northeast Ohio. The Great Depression led to a decline in business activity but not total abandonment or cessation; instead many businesses reopened including many owned by individuals such as steel magnate Andrew Mellon and auto manufacturer Henry Ford II In recent years there has been an increase in population growth due to both suburban migration from other parts of Ohio as well as immigration from Mexico City and other Latin American countries specifically El Salvador and Honduras According to 2016 estimates by UBS AG, Lorain has reached record levels for economic vitality with ranking second among cities across America behind Chicago . However even though there are pockets of stagnation or decline throughout Greater Cleveland overall over time this does not mean that Lorianians do not have bright future prospects according to numerous sources such as Forbes magazine which ranks them fifth out of fifty largest U.S.-based cities having enjoyed steady job growth over past several decades notwithstanding some setbacks like falling real estate values)

In 1828, he sold his land to Anthony Wayne for $2,000. In 1836, George Washington Carver settled in Lorain and began growing maize and other crops. From 1840 through 1860, there were three stores in Lorain: one run by James Hutton (a brother-in-law of George Stephenson), another by Solomon Pope (the father of Abraham Lincoln), andstill another by Elisha Pease (the uncle of Alfred Nobel). In 1892, the town became an organized municipality with a mayor-council form of government under which it had two wards: one redrawn from territory that used to include parts of Union Township; and one from territory that used to include parts of Steubenville Township. On February 19th, 1992, as part of larger changes taking place throughout Ohio including municipal consolidation within counties into regional service areas*, Mayor Tom Kapp announced that Lorain would become an independent city* subject only to regulation by Cleveland City Council*. Since then, efforts have been made to revitalize downtown Lorain through both public investment and private enterprise initiatives. Overall, it can be said that Lorain has experienced significant growth over recent history - making it one of America's most dynamic cities today.
