A post office called Lima was established in 1826, and remained operational until it closed in 1902. In 1830, John Hance built a cabin on what is now North Third Street just south of present-day State Route 219 north of downtown Lima. His cabin would remain standing until destroyed by fire in 1905. In 1835, George Beech founded the village on his farm east of the current city limits alongpresent-dayState Route 16 near modern day Canal Road and Beech Creek. He named his community Beavercreek after his home state ofPennsylvania where Beavercreek was located before becoming part of Ohio Territory (). Beavercreek continued to exist until it merged with Lima in 1907 to form the current city boundaries Beavercreek had a population of about 200 people when it merged withLima but its size did not reflect that number when measuring total population by Census taker because Beavercreek only housed men while all other villages contained both sexes living together side-by-side (). After merging with Lima, Beavercrike began to grow rapidly due to its new location and increasing density as more people moved into the area who were looking for an easy commute into central Ohio or Cleveland . As a result, by 1910 there were over 2200 people living in Beaver Creek Village and even more living scattered throughout adjacent farms
