Lima, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Sandusky County. The population was 27,895 at the 2010 census. Lima is part of the Akron-Canton-Muncie metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Lima was John Tiffin on March 11, 1796 when he and his family moved from Newtown, Connecticut to purchase 640 acres (247 hectares) of land at the mouth of Muskingum River for $5 per acre ($100 total). It was not until 1812 that a post office called Tiffentown was established, serving residents along the Muskingum River valley south of Lima. In 1814, a trading post and store were built by Samuel McCoy on land now occupied by OSI Corporation's old chemical plant complex; it became known as McCoy's Ferry Landing. In 1830, following settlement by Methodists from Waterloo Township in northeastern Will County (now Delaware), Methodist missionaries arrived in town with Drury Todd as their leader to preach to Native Americans and start evangelism among them; they soon renamed it "Lima." The first school in town opened in October 1830 under teacher Elijah Funkhouser; enrollment increased rapidly so Todd appointed him principal after one year. A gristmill was erected soon afterward by Jno Crouch and others; due to an early lack of available water power, mills began operating only intermittently starting about 1840 because river levels fluctuated so much. By 1850 there were six mills operating in town with 300 looms working at full capacity; however some fell into disrepair during the Civil War because military supplies were limited when Lima took over Union territory northwest of Dayton Warrensville Heights from rebel forces During Reconstruction through 1865, Lima–Sandusky County participated fully in both Republican and Democratic party systems but did not return African American citizens to service until after Cleveland's election as president on November 4th 1863 which re-established white supremacy across all United States territories ending Reconstruction Afterward many white former employees either migrated or retired to other parts of America while most Black workers returned home or found new employment outside Ohio In 1889 a company named National Can Company merged with Goodyear Rubber Company creating one of largest Rubber companies ever founded before splitting again 10 years later into two separate companies Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (later Tyvek) and National Can Products Incorporated On July 1st 1907 Toledo Edison Light Co., predecessor to General Electric Corporation set up shop here also becoming one of first electric utilities west of Allegheny Mountains

Lima is a small town in the northern part of Ohio. It was founded in 1796 by John Drury and his family. Lima was named after the capital of Peru, Lima, which at that time was under Spanish rule. The town grew rapidly as a result of its location on the route between Cincinnati and Toledo. In 1801, Lima became a county seat and has since grown to include portions of both rural and urban areas. The population of Lima peaked in 1920 at over 130,000; however, it has declined steadily since then due to various factors including suburbanization, economic slump, development near Interstate 75 (the "Miles-to-Mint" highway), and migration from the city to surrounding suburbs. According to the 2000 census there are now only about 10,000 residents living in Lima proper. Lima's history goes back even further than that. It was first settled by Native Americans in what is now central Ohio around 1000 BC when they were looking for land where they could hunt game and gather plants and trees. The area that would eventually become Lima was home to many different cultures before becoming English territory during the colonial era. The first European known to have set foot in what is now Lima County was Giovanni da Verrazzano who explored the area in 1565 while looking for new routes through North America for Spain's navy. After visiting many different parts of North America he returned to Europe some time prior to his death in 1595 He left behind him a map documenting his findings which helped Spaniards determine their way through what is today central Ohio - an important decision given that Columbus had just landed on American soil four years earlier! The early arrivals did not make life easy though as there were no roads or hospitals available so people hadTo travel long distances for medical attention or other needs such as food or water supplies. This difficult condition led some settlers into heavy drinking habits which caused them much heartache when things went wrong with their crops or trading ventures etc... However despite these challenges pioneer spirit prevailed and within five years most settlers had built themselves up into rough but sturdy log cabins capable of holding up against Indian attacks etc... By 1700 there were several villages located around what is today downtown Lima including: Pucallpa (now part of Cleveland), Utica (now Akron) Chatanooga (now Canton), Ohiopahalco (Nashville) Elkhart Lake(Now Danville) Wabash River Mouth(Marion). 2 more villages joined this group shortly thereafter: Delaware City & Sandusky Bay Village In 1797 John Drury purchased 640 acres east of present day downtown from the Shawnee Nation southeastward along present day I-75 until it reached Marietta Creek where he built a house called Grosse Pointe Manor later known as Whitehall Manor House.. By 1800 Drury had additional land purchases totaling 1,280 acres making him one of the largest landowners in central Ohio.. In 1801 he became one of two county commissioners representing Summit County when that county split off from Summit County due to growing population differences between Hamilton Township on the north side vs Chillicothe Township on the south side..Drury's presidency saw great growth at local government level with increased taxes levied upon Indians/nonresidents living within limits established by law .. . . . . . On July 3rd 1802 James Aiken arrived at Grosse Pointe Manor from Wexford , Ireland with intentionsof founding an agricultural colony near modern day Lancasterburg., PA He never got far because Pennsylvania switched sides during warring factions within their colonies leaving Aiken stranded overnight en route.. In fact all attempts made by American colonists throughout this period failed miserably due largely to lacklustre resources comparedTO those enjoyed by indigenous groups operating primarily within their respective regions unable TO tap into natural resources typically found outside their region .... Aiken soon realized how valuable eastern Kentucky WAS – its rich soils, clay minerals etc… Eventually he acquired 2200 acres adjacent eastward extending all along present day Lucas County line forming part thereof Today’s Lexington…..But Aiken still couldn’t find enough people willing TO come live among these new settlers...... So finally on October 5th 1803 Aiken sold his remaining interest462 parcels comprising currentday Clayborn township & parts adjoining it To James Watt Smith who erectedthe first permanent white house west OF Cincinnati,, thus beginning THE HISTORY OF LIMA

During World War II Lima was one of the most bombed cities in America, with more than 60% of its buildings destroyed or damaged. However, despite this setback Lima continue to grow as an important cultural and economic center postwar. In 1984 Peru gained independence from Spain, which led to increased investment in Lima's economy and culture. Today Peru is one of Latin America's fastest-growing countries and has become home to some of the biggest names in business, technology, artistry, fashion industry – all while maintaining close ties with Lima throughout its history
