Lima, Ohio is an unincorporated community in the town of Lima, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. It lies on the banks of the Licking River at its confluence with the Scioto River. The population was 1,812 as of the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Lima was John Bell in 1810. In 1814 a group of men from nearby Mentor built a log cabin on rapids above present-day downtown Lima. The community name originated with a dispute between two rival families over who should bear the cost of building a post office: one family preferred to call it "Mentor", while another opted for "Lima". The first post office opened in 1816 and functioned until 1850. In 1830, settlers near Lima built a gristmill on what is now called Riverside Drive and began to sell flour and other goods out of their wagonloads to travelers passing through that area. This early commercial activity helped drive away much of the Native American population which had long populated this part of central Ohio. A schoolhouse was erected southwest of present-day town square in 1840 by Pastor Elijah Beard and served as both local parish center and public school from then until 1868 when it burned down due to lack of funding. A new church was erected northeast of town square around 1845 by Revs George Ransom (1804-1872) and James Gentry (1788-1881). From this point onward there were no real changes until after World War II when almost all residents left for various reasons including industrial development eastward along I-71 or into Indiana or Michigan Territory; all but one immediate family remaining behind until 1951 when they vacated permanently due to suburban sprawl within walking distance outside city limits (the last resident died in 1990). By 1880 only 4 out of 9 original settlers remained living hereabouts; today tightknit knit rural communities like Peruburg have replaced most former Lima residents within blocks radius Lima experienced several wavesof migration during its early years: primarily Germans (mainly Anhaltians), Irish Catholics (chiefly those from County Clare), Poles/Ukrainians/Russians, Baptists, Methodists and Italians followed herdsmen across country trails driving cattle northward during summer months before heading back south during wintertime Most newcomers did not stay long once settled though some intermarried with locals; many descendants still reside here today

Lima, Ohio is a town in Lima County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lima County. The name "Lima" is Spanish for "a hillock." The first settler in what would become Lima was James Ewing who arrived in 1814 and named it after his home country of Scotland. businessmen John Stroud and Isaac Ralston founded the town of Lima on March 2, 1825 and built a log cabin near present day Centerville. The first Post Office opened in 1827. In 1830 John Gorman opened a store in the new village of Centerville which became one of the most important commercial centers in central Ohio until it closed its doors in 1865. In 1840 Clemens Cranch settled hereabouts with his family from New York state under the leadership of Latter-day Saint Joseph Smith Sr.. He organized and started up a general store called "Clemens's Store" on Main Street which prospered until 1862 when it burned down due to lack of insurance money. In 1845 Jno Purdy purchased rundown farmsteads east of town from David Smith for $1,000; he began to develop them into a viable agricultural community with many fine homes being erected during that period including Mrs. Purdy’s residence now known as Old Home Hill (now part of downtown). A post office was established at Purdy’s Settlement on October 12th, 1850 by Samuel Hutton and remained open until November 3rd 1870 when it was discontinued because no mail could be transported by horseback overland due to dense forested surroundings between Cincinnati and Dayton across the Monongahela River at this time! It wasn't until 1861 that an early formative effort towards wagon transportation began when Colton Bennett took out an ad in The Cincinnati Enquirer inviting bids for transporting freight overland from Toledo to Dayton via Lawrenceburg (now Lebanon). George Stephenson - local farmer/ entrepreneur - responded favorably with his offer to take wagons overland from Lawrenceburg through Cincinnati along what is now US Route 21 then turn around back near present-day Lima for $2 per day plus expenses! This venture failed miserably but led eventually to establishmentofthe express stage line running northwest from Cincinnati via Dayton direct to Pittsburgh via Cleveland . A school been built here about 1860 also leading eventuallytotheestablishmentofShawnee High School ca 1870 or so as well as later Peru Valley High School both locatedinDowntownLima today! During World War I there were several large scale munitions plants built nearby such as US Munitions Plant No 1 & 2 operated by Armstrong Electric Company & Wurlitzer Radio Corporation respectively; both left behind their own significant scars!! Today much evidence remains visible along US Routes 21& 23 just south off I-675 known as 'The Factory Road' !!
