He named his new town after Emperor Timucua, one of several Andes natives who had come down under Spanish rule to help noted scientist Francisco Pizarro conquer Peru during his 15th century campaign for world domination known as la conquista de Perú (the conquest of Peru). The settlement quickly grew into a thriving community thanks to its good location at an bend in the Scioto River – just upstream from present day downtown Lima – as well as its early access to resources such as timber and river water that made it particularly attractive to entrepreneurs looking for a frontier land investment opportunity. By 1840, most of these Indians had abandoned their former residences because direct European contact with Europeans had become impossible due to repeated attacks by Shawnee and other Native American groups along this route.
