Lebanon, Ohio is a small city in Appalachian Ohio. The population was 8,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1818 by General James Wilkinson and his family as a trading post on the Muskingum River. In 1830, Wilkinson moved the post to what is now Lebanon Park after finding land for it on an bend in the river. He named it after himself and his home country of Lebanon, Scotland. The community grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its location along one of America's major trails and its easy access to water resources. By 1850, there were over 100 residents in Lebanon. In 1840, Lebanese settlers began building churches and schools in what is now Dayton. These institutions helped create a strong cultural presence in their new community and give rise to some of America's most famous authors – including Euclid Cuyler (the first high school teacher), Nathaniel Hawthorne (a resident from 1838-40), Wm Hogg (founder of Wright State University) – among others. In addition, many Lebanese immigrants who arrived during the late 1800s worked as mechanics or street vendors before starting their own businesses downtown or farming near Beavercreek or other villages within miles of Lebanon Park. In 1900, when World War I began, much of western Ohio became involved in the conflict; many Lebanese civilians were killed as soldiers fought for either side. After hostilities ended in 1918, most Beirutians returned home but a few continued residing in Dayton until they left again during World War II; however, a large number still reside here today including descendants of those who came prior to that time period . During this time period several streets within Lebanon Park were renamed for military personnel lost during World War I: First Street ( honored for Captain George Aiken Posthumously ), Second Street ( honoring Lieutenant Colonel Albert Merrill ), Third Street (honoring Private John Newbold Posthumously ), Fourth Street ( Honorable Sergeant Harry Sauer ) and Fifth Avenue (Captain William Tillery ). Lebanon, Ohio is a town in Logan County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,664 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Summit Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Lebanon was made on the east side of Cuyahoga River by James W. McMillin and his family in 1809. They built a log cabin on the banks of the river and named their place "Lebanon". Other early settlers were John Fenton who settled in 1812 and David Coulter who arrived in 1814. In 1818, Nathan Bedford Forrest bought three-quarters of an acre (0.8 km²) of land west of Lebanon for $125 payable within five years or else he would sell it to no one else. For nearly fifty years Lebanon was a small farming community with few industry or commercial interests until 1905 when it started to develop as a railroad town with the construction of the Erie Railroad from Cleveland to Buffalo via Lebanon and Athens Junction. In 1906, Lebanon became home to its first school which Preparatory School No. 1 operated for grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade before being replaced by Lebanon High School which opened in 1915 . The high school eventually closed in 1976 but has been used as an event center since then by various businesses including rock concerts, trade shows and other events . One local historian has written that “the growth [of railways] not only created new opportunities but also led to increased competition among townsfolk over jobs and property values” leading some residents to move out of their homes into nearby villages such as Scioto Heights or Mayfield while others chose “to fight tooth and nail against any change that might reduce their share in society” ."In 1906 alone, two railroads – Great Western Railway (GW) from Cleveland and Erie Railroad (ER) from Buffalo – merged into one entity known as Conrail which boasted 3 million passengers per year." This merger allowed people living near Conrail tracks access to jobs across all industries while also allowing companies like GEICO to build cars larger than ever before improving transportation options for commuting employees throughout Greater Cleveland." With this industrial success came increased development around Beirut along with hotels, restaurants, shops and other infrastructure developments further increasing demand for housing units especially during times when prices were skyrocketing due to plentiful lumber resources available close by" resulting in many single-family homes becoming unavailable for purchase despite offers being made" ultimately leaving Lebanese villagers struggling "to find affordable housing since they could not keep up with increasing job demands." As well as these challenges there have been periodic outbreaks of violence throughout history impacting both Lebanese citizens living inside Syria along with religious Arabs living outside Syria - El Baradei neighborhood witnessing more than 20 attacks between 1954-1975 alone" making life difficult even today for those experiencing instability abroadEXCEPTional efforts have been made however by Mayor Greg Fischer spearheaded called "Lebanon 2030" initiative trying "to create opportunities for economic development within our community so that everyone can benefit from its growth" raising hopes that stability will return soon!
