At that time there were no towns or villages in present-day Lebanon proper but several scattered settlements around what is now central Dayton including Tell Abyad (later called Arabiyeh) and Bethsaida which are considered historical landmarks today because they provided military support against invading Turks during both world wars while also hosting refugees from Syria who fled during those conflicts Lebanon's earliest settlers arrived primarily from northern Syria because that was where most land suitable for farming was available. Lebanon, Ohio is a small town in central Ohio. The population was 986 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Alliance, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Lebanon were from Scotland and England. In 1812, James Ritchie, Sr., founded what would become the largest dairy farm in northwestern Ohio. Some of his descendants still live there today. In 1831, John Fenton erected a store and post office on what is now Main Street in Lebanon. By 1860, the community had four churches and seventy residents. In 1881, Lebanon became an incorporated village when it northward annexing portions of Athens Township. The village's first mayor was George Wickenheimer (1862-1927). During World War II (1939-1945), Lebanon served as a United States military airfield for bombers bombing Germany and other Axis countries; it also hosted troops during Operation Overlord (the invasion of Normandy). After the war ended, Beirut again became an incorporated village with its own police department until 1984 when it joined Athens Township as one unit under the new name of Utica-Alliance Township. The township seat moved to Plattsburg from Utica twice during its history: once in 1906 when Utica annexed all of Shiawassee Township west of Route 8 and again in 1912 when nearby Athens merged with Utica to form Utica-Alliance Township
