By 1870 there were over 100 residents and by 1920 the town had a population of 1,500. The economy was based on agriculture until World War II when industry took hold. In recent years Lebanon has become an important transportation and commercial center for central Ohio because of its location at the intersection of I-675 and US-20/Merrill Road. Lebanon’s history can be traced back to 1810 when George Washington Carver founded the village of Athens in what is now Lebanon Township. After his death two years later his wife established Carthage as a model community for other agricultural investors to follow. In 1834 Carthage became known as Athens after General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Nashville to that city during the American Civil War. The development of Athens led to growth in nearby Lebanon Township which also experienced expansion due to annexation by Athens between 1840 and 1850). In 1865 Lebanon was chartered as a village with a population of 350 people; however this number only increased due to immigration from Europe (mostly Germans) during that decade. On October 3rd 1890 Benson & Hedges Tobacco Company announced their intention to build a mill on top of Mount Vernon Cemetery in what would become known as “the Heights” area today. A week later construction began onsite and within weeks all but one family had moved into their homes; business continued uninterrupted until December 15th when an intense fire destroyed much of downtown Athens including both mills along with many homes valued at $2 million dollars ($100 million today). With such devastating news local businesses closed their doors for six weeks while firefighters fought flames that burned out entire blocks located eastside between High Street and Vine Street (today’s University Avenue)). This event marked Cincinnati’s first major industrial disaster and left several thousand people homeless or displaced (as many as 30% or 40% African Americans living in Cincinnati at that time).[1] Despite lacking insurance coverage most citizens chose not to leave their homes; instead they awaited news about whether their neighborhoods would be spared or if everything inside could still be saved including any valuable equipment which fortunately did not burn down.[2][3] Today some streets borderingMount Vernon Cemetery bear witness to this period - economically depressed Antioch Road runs directly adjacentTo high rises housing units built before 2000 following market demand[4] while partsOf Hazleton Pike still retain evidence Of early 20th century tobacco production dating back To 1840.[5][6][7] Although Roosevelt declared national emergency #1 following Chattanooga bombing he failed totake action against Knox County based largely upon information received from state agencies[8]. One year earlier on November 5th 1892 Lafayette Polytechnic Institute (now Regency University) opened its doors after being founded by wealthy local man Jabez Bowen with support from Ewing Kauffman [9]. When Kauffman died four months later Bowen assumed control over Regency Polytechnic Institute which soon afterwards became one of America’s leading engineering schools thanks largely theretoforeto Banning Gossett who served as president – making him oneof America’s wealthiest men at that time – having amassed large amountsof wealth through investments including several railroads etc.[10][11] Lebanese businessmen quickly recognizedregentpolytechnic institute's potentialandpurchased land around it for industrial purposesrenderingitthefirstiprojectintheareaaroundthistime.[12][13]}During1920sto1930thetownhadapopulationof30000 usinganoutlinethatincludesahousehold averageof$25 thoroughOUTALLthespaceofthestate($40pereducatedfamilieslivingintown)[14],[15],upontothe1980spopulation estimatewhichwas50000basedondatafromsurveyreproducedbyLebanonVillage Development Committee(LVDC)[16]).Todaylebaniengroundabout50%,mostofwhosesalesisgeneratedinthedifferentcommercearellocationswithincenters nearuyouthpopulations,[17],[18],[19];whilenorthsouth roadmainlyservestalethodsoftransportation

The village of Lebanon was founded in 1814 by Presbyterians who moved from Kentucky to what is now Lebanon Township in southwest Monongalia County. In 1836, General John Custer and his Seventh Cavalry passed through the area on their way to battle against Native Americans near present day Columbus. A plaque at the edge of Lebanon Schoolhouse marks the spot where they stopped for dinner that night. The village developed around the Presbyterian Church which served as its main civic building until it burned down in 1915. The church also built a school which became Lebanon High School in 1906; it still operates as a public school today. After World War II, many Lebanese immigrants came to America and this community grew significantly due to their presence. In 1951, Williamson College opened its doors in Lebanon and has since become one of Ohio's most prestigious universities with over 30 000 students enrolled across six campuses located throughout Athens-Muncie and surrounding counties. In addition to education, Williamson offers an extensive array of club and event offerings including baseball, golfing, tennis and bowling leagues among others. These days, much emphasis is put on environmental stewardship at Williamson as well as social responsibility through programming like sustainability workshops for high school students across campus as well as community engagement projects like building cleanups or composting drives during summer vacation weeks
