The area now known as Lancaster was first settled by Native Americans in the 18th century. In 1797, General George Washington erected a military fort at what is now Lancaster after his victory over France at Yorktown. The town began to grow rapidly during the 19th century due to its location on the main road connecting Cincinnati with Philadelphia and its availability for agriculture. By 1860, Lancaster had become a commercial center with numerous stores and shops along Pennsylvania Avenue. As other parts of Ohio grew richer through trade with Kentucky, Indiana, and Mexico, Lancaster became less prosperous until it regained its status as an important agricultural community in the late 20th century. During World War II, Lancaster played an important role in manufacturing munitions for America's war effort. Afterward, it experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Cleveland while retaining some of its agricultural traditions including raising livestock and producing hay bale products. However, despite this progressivism streak, Lancashire has not always been accepted favorably by certain sections of society - most notably those who live nearCLEVELAND BUSINESS DISTRICT

Lancaster, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lancaster County. The population was 15,651 at the 2010 census. It lies along the southern bank of the Scioto River in central Ohio, about 17 miles (29 km) east of Cleveland on Interstate 77 and about 26 miles (39 km) north of Akron on I-75. The first permanent settler in what is now Lancaster County was Nicholas Hahn in 1792. In 1814, John Cranch founded a post office here with the name "Cumberland." The first donation to an educational institution in Lancaster County was from Dr. James Caldwell in 1827. A seminary was built here in 1832 and became known as Brown University; it closed its doors after eight years due to financial difficulties. In 1830, William Penn donated land for a school system that would serve all of northeastern Ohio; this school system became known as Penn State College–Lancaster (later renamed Brown). In 1850, General David Butler took over command of Union troops during the American Civil War and ordered his forces to burn down all schools within 10 miles (16 km) radius of Chattanooga, Tennessee – includingPenn State College–Lancaster! This event is commemorated by a statue at Centerville High School located just east of downtown Lancaster proper celebrating this burning order with a plaque reading "David Butler: Burned Schools Order" In 1865, when Cleveland incorporated as a city, it selected Lancaster as its site for municipal government because it had more than double the population then any other municipality within Cleveland's boundaries at that time - 27th Ward vs 11th Ward! On July 1st 1870 local residents ratified an ordinance establishing their new city government by vote count rather than by referendum which further emphasized township form over borough form because there were already several townships established within Cleveland's boundaries! The first mayor and council were elected on August 4th 1870 with Judge Abram Fenton serving both positions until his death on November 3rd 1880 after serving three terms! On December 7th 1870 another ordinance establishing City Hall and Controller's Office was passed while also setting out detailed regulations governing elections & business conducted under city government...the only remaining items left to be ratified were streets & boulevards & fire ordinances etc., these ordinances were later added onto an existing comprehensive charter dated January 1st 1871!!! An additional election held on November 20th 1872 resulted in incorporation into the City Of Cleveland through annexation of adjacent Township 2d North without having to go through another election...this annexation allowed for even more growth within our city limits making us one OF CLEVELAND'S SIGHTING LOCATIONS WITH OVER 100 BUSINESSES NOW OPERATING IN OUR CITY!" The construction boom that followed World War II led to increased demand for housing relative to available resources throughout much Northeast Ohio but also led to increased pollution levels associated with munitions production techniques used during war times such as black powder synthesis explosives manufacturing plants located close proximity to small towns like Lancaster where high levels of carcinogens could be created from working near open flame sources such as furnaces or kilns
