Lakewood is a small town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The region that includes Lakewood and much of northwestern Ohio was once under Spanish control. In 1814, during the Mexican-American War, American forces burn down the churches in La Grange and other towns in what is now southwestern Lucas County to prevent Mexican raiders from taking hostages. The town first appeared on maps in 1798 when surveyors named it "Walnut Grove". It was incorporated as a village in 1825 and renamed "Lakewood" on November 2 of that year following approval by the Ohio General Assembly. As of the 2000 census, there were 2,841 people living in Lakewood Village (the main town), 1,986 households, and 924 families residing within its boundaries. The racial makeup of this village was 99% white and 1% black or African American according to Census 2000 data; however since 2004 all household races have been reported as white. There are also no Hispanics or Asians living within Lakewood Village's boundaries according to US Census 2001 data Lakewood has been home to many industries over its history including brewing ( later Chardonnay) for local consumption then exporting around Northeast Ohio market; lumber production from virgin oak trees used locally for flooring but exported world wide; water treatment plants built by Erie County which supplies drinking water to some 24 million people across America; marble quarries on Elmira Road close to downtown where limestone is processed into masonry products such as gates and arches etc.; textiles mills including three large adaptive roof/rainwater harvesting systems that turn rainwater into drinking water for residents near them then recycle it back into streetlights; numerous retail businesses catering mostly to groceries although service industry presence has increased in recent years with several new restaurants opening up like an Italian restaurant called 'Pizzaiolo', a brewpub called 'Brimstone' that serves food both inside and outside with brewery hours extending until 11pm nightly And finally one large hotel - Renaissance Center - providing plenty of space for events as well as housing for workers who come through town during construction projects or during holiday season

Lakewood, Ohio is a small town located in southeast Ohio. The population was 9,721 at the 2010 census. It is the only municipality in Lakewood Township and it forms part of the Cleveland-Akron Metropolitan Area. The townships of Ashtabula, Lakewood, and Medina make up the village of Tremont. Lakewood was founded on April 22, 1814 by Peter Sellers as an outpost on what is now owned by I-71 east of Akron. On December 12, 1817, a post office was established at the site which served until 1861 when it was moved to what is now the downtown area of Lakewood. In 1868 Timothy Mather opened the first general store in what is now downtown Lakewood with his brother Oliver Mather as Manager. In 1901 both stores were closed and replaced by J.C. Penney's store which remains today as one of downtown's most prominent buildings.. In 1907 Drs Julius Rosenwald and Maurice Hirschman donated land for a city park that became known as Rosenwald Park after them and their families contributed $10,000 towards its construction.. The park has since been renamed after Ben Franklin who lived in nearby Mentor during his early years in America. The original town hall built in 1814 burned down on February 3rd, 1870 but was rebuilt soon afterwards with more efficient architecture using logs from miles around to build its present day appearance.. On October 10th 1912 local man George Weiser set off a small fire that destroyed many homes near Main Street corner due to carelessness while working with oxyacetylene torches cutting lumber for new homes being constructed adjacent to Algonquin Savings Bank across from where he lived later that year.. On September 25th 1943 local teenager Jean Morehouse discovered an unexploded Bofors Gun barrel hidden among some leaves behind along East High Street just south of where she lives today! She notified authorities who detonated it resulting in legal action against both purchaser/maker Beretta Arms Company Incorporated (now Brownells) who manufactured ammunition used within her home state(Upton County OH) during World War II because they knew about this gun barrel but did not report it to authorities! This event also helped increase public awareness about unexploded ordnance dangers associated with residential areas across America during wartime period
Lakewood was founded in 1792 by Major George Washington as a part of the Northwest Territory. The area now known as Lakewood was part of the Toledo District until 1813, when it became part of the Westmoreland County district. In 1815, it became a part of Cuyahoga County and in 1827, it became a part of the newly formed Cleveland County. On July 1, 1800, Cleveland incorporated as a city and on November 3, 1850, its charter was amended to allow for incorporation of other municipalities within Cleveland. On December 20, 1853, Lakewood annexed the neighboring town of Strongsville into itscity limits. On May 11 1907, Lakewood voters passed an ordinance authorizing annexation by the city of Euclid which had been proposed by Mayor John Brisbin and Councilman Geo H. Sloat. The annexation created Euclid-Lakewood Township with a population of over 100 residents and made Lakeshore Boulevard one-way between Euclid and Lakewood proper. In 1912-1914 two neighborhoods were developed called "The Gables" and "The Villas". These areas are now home to several thousand people in what is considered one of Cleveland's most diverse communities; both neighborhoods have since undergone gentrification efforts that have added more than 15000 residents to their populations since then!
